Game 99: Yanks vs. Twins

Regular Season Game 99
Yankees (53-45) @ Twins (55-43)
Yankee Stadium - Bronx, NY
Game Time: 7:05 p.m.
TV: YES - MLB.TV | Radio: WCBS 880

Here are the lineups:

YANKEES
Johnny Damon DH
Derek Jeter SS
Bobby Abreu RF
Alex Rodriguez 3B
Jason Giambi 1B
Robinson Cano 2B
Melky Cabrera CF
Jose Molina C
Brett Gardner LF

Sidney Ponson RHP (5-1, 3.96 ERA)

TWINS

Nick Blackburn RHP (7-5, 3.65 ERA)

Notes: George King reports that Jorge Posada told The Post today that he likely will be heading back onto the disabled list with a recurring right shoulder problem. ... Damon apparently talked his way back into the lineup. I'm sure Posada heading to the DL helped him out a lot.

Bad news for Posada. He will see Dr. David Altchek tomorrow and may soon have season-ending surgery to repair the torn lambrum in his shoulder. The surgery is such that he may need to get it now to make sure he will be ready for next season.
Peter also reported that Hideki Matsui is going to put off knee surgery and will try to rehab the knee one more time. So apparently Bill Madden jumped the gun a bit when he reported this morning that "either today or tomorrow, the Yankees will announce that Matsui is going to have season-ending knee surgery." I'm sorry I wrote a post about it earlier.

By the way, did you guys know that Barry Bonds is still available?

wow, things just keep getting worse. I wonder if we could pick up a catcher, maybe Doumit from Pittsburgh, hes a good hitter. I think Lo Duca could be onthe block from the Nats. Any other options?
If we can somehow win this year it will be remarkable, and also more satisfying. With all these injuries no one will ever give us a chance, this time we'll be the underdogs and catch everybody by surprise,( At least I hope we will.)

Texas has a surplus of catchers.

Posada really hasn't been great since he returned from the DL. He's hitting .214 in July and he's been embarrassing behind the plate. So I think the loss seems worse than it is.

barry bonds? but he's 44 remember? surely he's not going to be a solid offensive option...he only OPSed 1.045 last year...what a chump...................

Greg, whens Aceves' next start? If Razz bombs tomorrow Alfredo may be one start away from a call up. Whether he starts tonight or tomorrow he should fall right in line.

How about Sidney pluggin up the rotation nicely so far? Cash really knows how to pick em when it comes to other teams' scraps. Ponson, Sexson, even Molina and Moeller were all big plugs for this team.

I'm not sure, he may start tomorrow or the next day.
