I don't like saying it - because it's cheesy - but Joba rules! At 22 the kid moseys into Fenway Park and pitches a gem, outdueling Red Sox Ace, Josh Beckett. Simply outstanding. In 7 innings Joba allowed no runs on three hits (all singles) and a walk, while striking out nine. Joba also retired the last 10 batters he faced. He threw 103 pitches on the night, 69 of them for strikes. He's pitched well as a starter, but this was by far his best performance. This was the first time since Mel Stottlemyre in 1964 that a Yankees starter 22 or younger won a game at Fenway Park.
Once again, Joba threw up and in to Kevin Youkilis and knocked him on his butt. This is the third time he's thrown in to, or at, Youkilis. The pitch was up near his chin, and ricocheted off Youkilis' bat, but with nobody out in the 7th of a 1-0 game and a 2-0 count, you have to believe this time it wasn't on purpose. Anyway, he eventually struck an angry Youkilis out on several nasty sliders.
Kyle Farnsworth came in for the 8th and ran into a bit of trouble. He allowed a leadoff single to Jed Lowrie, got Jason Varitek to pop out, and then allowed an infield single to Coco Crisp, and that would be all for the Farns.
Joe Girardi was not messing around tonight, so he brought in Mariano Rivera for a five out save, and Mo delivered. In 1.2 innings pitched Mo allowed no runs on one hit, while striking out three and walking none. He is now 26-for-26 in save opportunities.

RED SOX PITCHING
The Yankees were able to scratch across one run in the third, and that proved to be enough on this night. In the inning the Yankees had nobody on and two out, then Bobby Abreu and Alex Rodriguez both singled, setting up 1st and 3rd with two out for Jason Giambi. Giambi then fought off and 0-1 pitch and punched it through the vacated hole at shortstop (thank you shift!) and the Yanks had their lead.
The win was the Yanks seventh in a row, and moves the Yanks to a season-high 12 games over .500 with a 57-45 record.

WAAAAAAHHHHHH! Don't throw near my head Joba!!!!
Youk gets way too comfortable in the box with his samurai stance and Joba is just making him move his feet. The sox were jawing at Joba all night you could see him talking to the bench a couple of times when he was walking off the mound. It's about time that the Yanks start to bring some attitude into this rivalry and they finally have a pitcher unafraid to pitch inside. Now A-Rod just needs to go after Varitek and order will be returned to the universe.
I agree, this team needs a guys like Joba. And as much as I hate him for cheating, and lying about it, you gotta give Clemens some credit here. You can see a lot of Clemens in Joba, and the time they spent together on last year's team may be a reason for it.
