Posada Upset He's Not Behind the Plate

From the Mark Feinsand:
Criticizing his manager isn't Jorge Posada's way, even as he spent yet another game away from his familiar spot behind the plate.

Privately, however, Posada has expressed his dissatisfaction with Joe Girardi's decision to start Jose Molina in each of the Yankees' last six games - including Thursday night's makeup game with the Pirates - according to a source with knowledge of the situation.

Posada was in the lineup as the Bombers' first baseman, but when asked about his lack of time behind the plate, Posada got testy and made it clear that he still considers himself a full-time backstop.

"I like to catch. Okay?" Posada said. "I'm in the lineup and I'm happy that I'm in the lineup, but I like to catch. I'm a catcher. I'm not a first baseman and I'm not a DH. I like to catch, so I'm looking forward to catching (today)."

Well he's certainly right about one thing, he's not a first baseman. But with his throwing arm the way it is right now, he's not a catcher either - especially against teams that run - and Posada must realize this.

I've lost all respect for Posada. I don't understand comments that "Criticizing his manager isn't Posada's way." Jorge hasn't done much other than criticize Girardi. This isn't the first time he has spoken out proclaiming that he's a catcher, exclaiming his prima donna status. He's a clubhouse cancer right now. I'd be happy to see him go.

A little harsh Jeff ... I don't see how Jorge can catch every day if he can't throw a runner out. Last night's loss was a real momentum breaker and I couldn't agree more with the comment about A-Rod. Perhaps someone should warn Madge that he can't produce in the clutch!

I think Posada is right to complain. Even if he can't throw a lick and Molina throws out everybody, the Yanks are much worse with Molina in the line-up, as Steven Goldman proves (in my mind, at least) in his Monday, June 30th post, here.

Even if Posada is DH or 1B, Molina is still in line-up, and he needs to get as few at bats as possible for this team to score runs. This is esp. important when the offense is scoring only two run a game, as it has been doing lately.
