First of all, sorry for the lack of lineups/updates in the game thread today, I was out all day playing softball and rushing to my mom's apartment to catch the end of the game. Prior to the game the Yankees made a couple roster moves to make room for Xavier Nady and Damaso Marte; Latroy Hawkins was DFA'd, and Brett Gardner was optioned to AAA Scranton.
Anyway, on to the game, and what a game it was. The Yankees dominated the Red Sox for their 8th win in a row (4th in a row against the Sox), and moved to within one game of the Wild Card leading Sox. Andy Pettitte started for the Yanks and was very good for the second straight outing. He allowed just three runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks, and struck out seven over 6 innings of work to pick up his 12th win of the year. He allowed 2 runs in the first, but settled down over the next five, the only other run coming on a J.D. Drew solo homer.
Jose Veras relieved Pettitte in the 7th and was a little shaky. He retired one batter on a strike out, walked one, and allowed a single to Kevin Youkilis.
Damaso Marte then came in for his Yankee debut, and did the job. He came in for the left-handed David Ortiz, and he struck him out. This is why they got him, and he looked great in his first opportunity.
Edwar Ramirez was dominant in his 1.1 innings of work. He didn't allow a hit, walked one and struck out one.
David Robertson came on to pitch the 9th and retired the side in order.

RED SOX PITCHING
The Yankees fell behind 2-0 in the first, but scored a run in the 3rd, and two more in the 4th and they sailed from there. Bobby Abreu started off the scoring with a RBI single, Robinson Cano added a solo homer in the next inning. Three batters later Johnny Damon drove in the Yanks' third run with a RBI single.
In the 6th inning the Yanks added four more runs to make it a 7-2 ballgame, and basically put the game away. After the Yanks got runners on 2nd and 3rd with nobody out, Johnny Damon drove in a run with a RBI force out. Jeter than drove in another with a single, and Abreu followed that with an RBI double, which was then followed by an Alex Rodriguez RBI single to extend the Yankees lead to five.
They added three more runs in the 8th inning on a bases loaded walk to Giambi and a two-run double off the bat of Robinson Cano.
It was a great performance by the Yankees offense, which pounded out 10 runs on 13 hits, and also drew seven walks.
In his Yankees debut Xavier Nady went 0-for-3, with a walk and a run scored.
The Red Sox did retaliate for last night's Joba/Youkilis incident; reliever Craig Hansen plunked A-Rod on the upper arm. No big deal, it's just part of the game. ... Oh, and Hansen ended up giving up three runs in .2 of an inning.
