8/20 Minor League Report

PITCHING: Ian Kennedy got the start for SWB and took the loss (4-3). ... Kennedy threw a perfect 1st inning. He didn't fare as well in the 2nd. He loaded the bases on a bloop single, infield hit, and walk. A bases clearing triple gave Rochester a 3-2 lead. ... Kennedy pitched scoreless 3rd & 4th innings allowing a hit in each inning. ... In the 5th inning a run scored on 2 singles and a rbi groundout to make the score Rochester 4-2. Kennedy was relieved after 5 innings. 4 runs, 7 hits, 9 K's, 1 walk. ERA 2.56 101 pitches--67 strikes.

Scott Patterson came on to pitch a scoreless 6th inning. He struckout the 1st batter in the 7th before being relieved by Phil Coke. Patterson struck out 3 of the 4 batters he faced. ... Coke got the final 2 outs of the 7th inning. Coke pitched a scoreless 8th. ... Scott Strickland came on to pitch the 9th. 3 runs scored (1 earned) on an error, single, 2-run triple, and a sac fly to make the score 7-2.

OFFENSE: SWB jumped on top 2-0 in the 1st inning. Justin Christian had an infield hit, Melky Cabrera singled, Shelley Duncan followed with a 2-run single. That was all the scoring the Yankees did. SWB threatened in the 8th when Melky Cabrera and Shelley Duncan both singled, but were stranded on base.

Melky Cabrera had 2 singles, scored a run, reached on an error, and lined out. ... Justin Christian, Shelley Duncan and Chris Stewart each had 2 singles.

Unlike a lot of Yankees fans I'm not that down on Melky. I understand young players sometimes have rough years, that's what Melky is going through this year. I also think his great month of April hurt him, may have made him think he was a power hitter, and screwed up his swing.

I still think he could be a solid major leaguer.

Yea, it's such a sad story. The kid was only 18 years old. And from what I've read Miley is a very nice guy. You gotta wonder why bad things happen to good people.

Not too good. Eric Duncan is hitting .229 with 11 HR, and 54 RBI.
