HR: SWB: B. Broussard (12).
The SWB Yankees picked up their 2nd shutout in a row by downing Buffalo (Indians) by a 2-0 score. The win puts the 1st place Yankees record at 83-52.
PITCHING: Alfredo Aceves got the start for the Yankees and pitched his best game since being promoted to AAA. He shutout a tough Buffalo lineup featuring Travis Hafner, Victor Martinez, and Josh Barfield, all on rehab assignments. Aceves pitched 6 shutout innings allowing only 3 hits. Aceves gave up a single in the 1st and 2nd innings, and a triple in the 3rd. He was perfect after that until a leadoff walk in the 7th. Aceves started the 7th inning giving up a walk and was relieved by Mark Melancon. He left with a 2-0 lead and got the win (2-3)
Aceves line: 6.0 IP, 0 runs, 3 hits, 8 K's---2 walks, 91 pitches, 62 for strikes 5 groundouts---5 flyouts.
Mark Melancon relieved Aceves in the 7th with a runner on 1st, and retired the next 3 batters, 2 on strikeouts. He also pitched a perfect 8th inning, adding his 3rd strikeout of the game.
Billy Traber came on to pitch the 9th. He gave up a leadoff single to Victor Martinez before picking up his 4th save.
OFFENSE: Buffalo starter, lefty Scott Lewis also pitched a very good game. SWB got to Lewis for 2 runs in the 2nd inning when Shelley Duncan doubled and Ben Broussard hit a 2-run homer (12) to give them a 2-0 lead. That was all the scoring in the game. Duncan's double extended his hit streak to 9 games. Broussard also added a single. Chris Basak, Nick Green and Bernie Castro each singled. ... Juan Miranda continues to struggle against lefty pitching, striking out 3 times. Melky Cabrera was 0-4, snapping his 6 game AAA hit streak. Melky is batting .360 at AAA.
NOTES: Former Yankee Morgan Ensberg played for Buffalo and went 0-3 with 2 strikeouts. Ensberg is only hitting .181 at AAA with 4 homers. SWB's last regular season home game is Monday. Ian Kennedy gets the start against Buffalo.

2 Comments:
Atta boy Alfredo!!!
Couple more of those will do just fine, finish the playoffs strong in the minors and well see you in february for pitchers n catchers.
Hey, one more 3 hitter with 8 k's and we could see him labor day.
Aceves has been better his last two starts. Maybe he's figured something out.
