The SWB Yanks shutout the Pawtucket Red Sox 4-0 to give them a 1.5 lead over in the division race. It was SWB's 12th shutout of the year and gives them a 73-46 record.
PITCHING: Kei Igawa got the start and picked up the win (12-5). Igawa struggled with his control the first 3 innings giving up 4 walks. He worked out of a bases loaded jam in the 3rd after giving up 2 singles and a walk. His control improved over his final 3 innings. Igawa's line: 6.0 IP, 0 runs, 5 hits, 3 K's--4 walks. 104 pitches-64 strikes. ERA 3.39 5 groundouts---10 flyouts.

Chris Britton came in to get the first 2 outs of the 7th with Billy Traber coming in to face a lefty and getting the final out of the inning.
Mark Melancon came on to pitch the 8th inning. He gave up an infield hit, and got a doubleplay. The final out was a slow roller to 1st baseman Juan Miranda. Miranda bobbled the ball, Melancon covering 1st base, picked the ball up and fell over the bag getting the out. Melancon rolled over into foul territory but was not injured. He came on to pitch the 9th, striking out the sides. Melancon's fastball was topping out at 95 mph. 28 pitches, 19 for strikes ERA 1.50
OFFENSE: Bartolo Colon got the start for the PawSox and the Yankees jumped on him in the 1st inning. Bernie Castro walked and was followed by Matt Carson's 2-run homer. Juan Miranda followed with a double, Shelley Duncan walked, and Cody Ransom drove in Miranda with a single to give SWB an early 3-0 lead. ... In the 3rd inning Cody Ransom hit a solo homer (21) to finish the scoring at 4-0.
NOTES: Alfredo Aceves starts Wednesday, with Phil Hughes going in the series finale against Pawtucket Thursday.
SWB beat writer Chad Jennings in a discussion with Nardi Contreras, reports that Humberto Sanchez was shut down last week with elbow discomfort. Sanchez ran out of rehab time. He'll be put on the DL again and given another 30 day rehab period and start throwing again next week.
