8/8 Minor League Report

PITCHING: Jason Jones was called up from AA Trenton to replace Ian Kennedy in the SWB rotation. Jones got off to a great start throwing perfect 1st and 2nd innings. He threw first pitch strikes to each batter in those innings. In the 3rd, 1 run scored on a double and infield hit to tie the score at 1. Jones threw a perfect 4th inning. In the 5th, 2 runs scored on 2 singles and a double, giving Syracuse a 3-2 lead. Jones pitched a scoreless 6th. Jones started the 7th and got the first out before being relieved. Jones line: 6.1 IP, 3 runs, 5 hits, 4 K's--0 walk Jones threw 90 pitches, 60 for strikes. Jones pitched well but got the loss (0-1).

Billy Traber relieved Jones in the 7th and got the final 2 outs. Traber threw a scoreless 8th inning. ... Chris Britton came on to pitch the 9th and gave up 2 runs on a single and 2-run homer making the score Syracuse 5-2.

OFFENSE: The Yankees broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning on doubles by Juan Miranda and Cody Ransom. ... In the 4th, Cody Ransom hit a solo homer (22) to give SWB a 2-1 lead after 4 innings. ... Cody Ransom had the solo homer, 2 doubles and a walk. ... Nick Green added a double. ... Brett Gardner and Chris Basak each added a single.

NOTES: Vernon Wells made a rehab appearance in this game for Syracuse going 0-4. ... Juan Miranda extended his hit streak to 12 games with a double. ... Chase Wright gets the start Saturday.
