There have been some bad losses this year, but this might be the worst. That was tough to take. You lose the game because Johnny Damon misplays a ball with 2 outs in the bottom 8th to allow the game-winning run to score. And on top of that, the only reason Johnny Damon was in center was because Hideki Matsui made his return to the lineup tonight.

They also wasted a great performance by Darrell Rasner, who allowed just one run on three hits in 6.2 innings pitched tonight, he walked one and struck out three. A team that is trying to make up ground cannot waste a performance like this from Darrell Rasner. The only mistake he made was when he allowed a solo homer to Adam Lind in the 7th.

And to make matters worse, every team the Yankees are chasing, the Rays, Red Sox, Twins, and White Sox, all won tonight. So the Yanks are now 6.5 games behind the Sox in the Wild Card, and 11 games behind the Rays in the division. Oh, and the Jays are now just one game behind the Yankees for 3rd place.

A few days after A-Rod said that the Yankees' 3-4-5 hitters were going to have to carry this team, he and Giambi went 1-for-8 with 7 K's. The one hit came from A-Rod in the 9th, but he got thrown out trying to stretch a bloop single into a double. At least Abreu went 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and a RBI.
