Garcia to Tigers, Byrd to Red Sox

First the Garcia news from Jon Heyman:
Freddy Garcia has agreed to a contract with the Tigers, SI.com has learned. ...

Garcia's deal is a minor-league contract that runs only through the end of 2008. It will become a major league contract if he's promoted to the parent club. Garcia will report first to Class-A Lakeland.
The Byrd news comes from MLB.com:
The Indians traded the veteran Byrd to the Red Sox for a player to be named or cash on Tuesday.

Boston is getting Byrd at his best. After a rough first half in which he seemingly couldn't keep the ball in the park, Byrd changed his windup, rediscovered his curveball, curtailed the home runs and gone 4-0 with a 1.24 ERA in four starts since the All-Star break. He is 7-10 with a 4.53 ERA in 22 starts overall.
If Byrd's new motion has really helped him this much you have you wonder why the Yankees didn't block the move, or try and acquire Byrd themselves. If he's effective this move will greatly help Boston make up for the loss of Tim Wakefield.

Exactly, and Pudge, and er...uh...Marte.

Great move Cashman as usual. Cashman is the worse GM ever. Every move he makes or doesn't make stinks and comes back to bite him.

Go sign Arod to anoterh 300 million contract you moron. Or better yet, sign the overrated Jeter to another huge contract.

Plus, Sheffield is on the market. Go ahead sign him Cashman we need another DH *roll eyes*.

Paul Byrd. Paul Byrd? We're concerned that the Red Sox just got PAUL BYRD? Don't be fooled by his last 4 starts or some mysterious new change in his delivery. The guy is awful, and will be bombed with the Red Sox.

Prior to those last 4 starts, his ERA was 5.47. I'm not convinced this is anything more than 4 fluke games.

i'm not worried about paul byrd, but didn't he beat us in the playoffs last year?

That's why I said "If Byrd's new motion has really helped him this much you have you wonder why the Yankees didn't block the move, or try and acquire Byrd themselves."

The Yankees have scouts to notice these types of things, and if Byrd really fixed something the Yankees should have taken notice. We will find out for sure if he's really a better pitcher, or if these four games were just a fluke.

Anyone could have beat us in the playoffs last year. Paul Byrd or Larry Bird.

I just am not buying this changed delivery that has suddenly fixed the fact that he's been an average pitcher at best for the last 3 years. I could be wrong, of course, and the Yankees may have missed out, but I'm betting good money that there's nothing to this.
