Melky Down, Gardner Up, Sexson Gone
Joel Sherman of the NY Post is reporting that Melky Cabrera has been sent down to AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, and Brett Gardner has been called up. I knew people within the organization were growing tired of Melky's struggles, but I have to admit I'm pretty surprised by this move. Although I don't think it's a bad one.

well, they are certainly making moves and looks like theyre not giving up on this season yet. whats the word on this ransom kid i havent heard much about him?
i wish they would make a push for washburn, they would definitely have waiver rights on him.

Ransom used to be with the Giants from '01-'04, wasn't in the majors in '05-'06 and then moved to Houston in the '07. He's a lifetime .236 hitter in 140 big league at-bats.
He's 32 and he's having a pretty nice year in AAA this year. He can also play 2nd, SS, 3rd, and the outfield.
The move looks to me like they are cutting away some of the fat and giving some other guys a chance to develop in a low-pressure situation. The Bombers have given up on 2008 and are doing some scouting at the big-league level for guys that could be on the team in 2009.
