Hank Eying Sabathia and Burnett

From the NY Daily News:

Hank Steinbrenner is keeping his glimmer of hope for the postseason alive. But that’s not about to stop him from peeking ahead to some valuable pitchers that should be available on the free agency market during the offseason - namely, CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett.

The Baby Boss says the two pitchers will be on everyone’s radar this offseason, but that the Yankees in particular will be keying in on how each of their arms hold up after the regular season concludes.

“Everybody is looking at Sabathia and Burnett, not just us,” Steinbrenner said Thursday. “We’ll see. I mean, our main concern is, are their arms going to be okay after this season?”

The Yankees should definitely try to sign CC Sabathia, throw a ton of money at him and a reasonable amount of years, and get him in pinstripes. But there is no way I want to see A.J. Burnett in a Yankees uniform. Yes, he has 16 wins, which is nice, but wins are the worst way to judge a pitcher. He's got a 4.58 ERA, and he never stays healthy. Please Cashman, stay away from this guy. Oh, and just because he owns the Yankees doesn't mean he's a good pitcher.

I agree about Burnett. I'm starting to agree about CC too. I'm not a fan of the Yanks throwing money at pitchers anymore, but with Pavano gone and CC performing so well with Milwaukee I think it might be worth taking a chance on him. CC-Wang-Joba-Mussina-Hughes? doesn't sound too bad to start next year with.

I will take that one step further. Give up on Kennedy, see what people will give up for Hughes, add Matsui to either deal and bring back another legitimate starter to go with CC-Wang-Joba-Mussina. I love Matsui but he is getter older and more fragile each year. I am greedy but I am getting tired of watching the Yankees lose. Dump Pavano, Pettite, Giambi, Betemit, Melky, etc. Keep Nady and Abreu because they are actually valuable parts to our team.
