It was pretty much a worst-case scenario for Ian Kennedy tonight. He was very ineffective, and is now 0-4 with an 8.17 ERA. Tonight he allowed 5 runs on 9 hits in just 2+ innings of work. He wasn't fooling anybody. I hate to say it, but he really doesn't look like a major league pitcher at this point. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to give up on him yet, but I'm getting very close.
Darrell Rasner came in to relieve Kennedy and was very good for the first four innings as he kept the Yankees in the game, but with the Yankees trailing 6-5 in the 7th, Joe Girardi sent Rasner out for a 5th inning of work and it appears that it was one inning too long. He gave up a solo homer to Torii Hunter, retired a batter, and then allowed a single before leaving the game. Rasner's final line was 4.1 IP, 5 H, 3 R, 3 ER, 0 BB and 4 K.
Brian Bruney then came in and did not pitch well at all. In 1.2 Bruney allowed 2 runs on 3 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 2.

ANGELS PITCHING
Give the Yankees offense some credit, they fought back twice in this game. First trailing 2-0, they came back to take a 3-2 lead. Then trailing 6-3 they cut it to 6-5. At least they showed something, and had they gotten any pitching tonight they could have won this ballgame.
Alex Rodriguez broke out of his slump with a solo homer in the 2nd, his 25th of the season.
Xavier Nady continued his hot hitting as a Yankee with a RBI single in the 3rd, and a solo homer in the 6th.
Robinson Cano and Johnny Damon also had two hits apiece.

I'm glad A-Rod broke out of his slump, but one solo homer is simply not enough.
The Big G needs to bring back the magic of the 'Stache. Maybe he can try a new hairstyle.
Ian Kennedy is not a major leaguer....At least not for the Yankees....He can't handle the pressure and it is time to cut ties with him.
Life without Joba and Wang is not so good. Like anonymous said, Kennedy is not and will not be a major league player. Maybe he can join Karstens in Pittsburgh and find his stuff but he'll never make it in New York. His latest comments sealed his fate. I don't understand why the Yanks were keeping him out of trade talks. Just look at the number of innings he's gone in each of his outings this year. Let him go.
Kennedy needs to see a shrink. He pitches well in the minors and can't get anyone out when he's on the big stage.
Ian Kennedy really needs to learn how to pitch like the Mighty Moose. Even Sir Sidney can teach him how to pitch himself out of trouble.
And he really needs to learn to speak to the media like Dandy Andy.
Agreed about A-Rod and Kennedy's lack of public relations skills. "I'm not too upset about it" was his response to an atrocious, useless start? Up yours, IPK. That's disgraceful, and something the Yankees veterans will bristle at--and REALLY would have in an earlier era. The Yankees hate to lose. Kennedy should be steamed at himself instead of ham-handedly trying to maintain his confidence. His post-game interview was as disgraceful as his pitching last night.
I don't know whether or not Kennedy will ever be a quality major-league pitcher. It's early and he's still young. He seems to be a major-league dope, however.
