Darrell Rasner's hold on the fifth spot in the Yankees
' starting rotation couldn't be more tenuous. The right-hander allowed five earned runs over four innings in the Yanks' 14-9 victory over the Angels yesterday, and manager Joe Girardi hardly gave Rasner a ringing endorsement afterward.
"We'll continue to discuss things, and if we make a change, we make a change," Girardi said.
In other words, "We'll continue to discuss things, and when we make a change, we'll make a change."
So here are your candidates to replace him:
Ian Kennedy: 4-2, 2.14 ERA, 46.1 IP, 29 H, 13 BB, 38 K at AAA
Alfredo Aceves: 1-0, 4.15 ERA, 21.2 IP, 21 H, 6 BB, 21 K at AAA
Chase Wright: 1-0, with a 0.00 ERA in one start in AAA, he pitched 6 innings, and allowed just 1 hits, 3 walks, and struck out 4.
Dan Giese: 1-3, 2.51 ERA, 32.1 IP, 24 H, 10 BB, 20 K with the Yanks, but as a starter he's 0-2 with a 5.06 ERA, and as a reliever he's 1-1 with a 1.45 ERA so it may be better to keep him as the long man.
Phil Hughes and Carl Pavano, yes, Carl Pavano, are on their way back, but will not be ready by Friday.I think Kennedy should get the start on Friday, but if it was up to you who would you start?

I'm going with Kennedy also. After that (if Ponson needs to be taken out), I'm going with Chase Wright. I know most would like to see Aceves but I wouldn't want to rush him in. Plus if this were to happen where we need to fill both spots, that second spot would just be a temporary filler until Hughes comes back.
Kennedy
Giese. He's already on the ML roster and had some good success against the Angels on Sunday. I'd love to see Kennedy get called up, but the Angels would not be a good team for Ian to face given that he nibbles corners and the Angels take a lot of pitches. Ian would have a tough time getting through 5 innings when he needs a good start to gain confidence.
Giese
Alright so we have two for Giese and two for Kennedy (excluding me). We need a deciding vote.
Giese's ERA as a starter is inflated due to one good start and one bad start. 4.0 innings against the Mets, 5 H, 6 ER, 4 BB. Against the Reds he went 6.2, only 4 hits, 0BB, 5 Ks, 3 runs (all unearned).
His season WHIP is 1.05. He throws strikes, he gets a lot of soft contact with his off speed pitches. There's no better dandidate right now.
To me, it's a probably a toss up between Kennedy and Giese, but I think Giese has earned a chance by his performance, so I'm giving him the "vote" over IPK. I'm also not so sure that throwing Ian into the wolve's den down in Anaheim (near his home country) is the best way to bring him back up.
I'll put Wang on a wheel chair and let him pitch.
kennedy should pitch, but its going t be geise.
I think I should pitch. You never see a 13 year old pitch in a big league game. My fastball is somewhere between 75-78. I'll own.
