Stop Batting Jason Giambi Fifth

Obviously clutch hitting has been one of the things that has killed this team, particularly the lack of clutch hitting from the four and five hitters, Alex Rodriguez and Jason Giambi.

But as bad as A-Rod has been (.246 with RISP), Giambi has been that much worse. Giambi is currently hitting .205 average with RISP, which is very similar to his .207 avg. as a number five hitter. It also might help A-Rod see some better pitches if the hitter behind him was actually hitting.

As I see it the Yankees have two options; swap Matsui and Giambi in the order, batting Matsui fifth and Giambi seventh. Or they can swap Nady and Giambi. With Nady hitting fifth and Giambi hitting sixth. The only problem with this is they'd have three lefties hitting back-to-back-to-back. They could fix that by batting Cano ninth.

(Giambi has done well battng sixth this season where he's a .346 hitter in 78 at-bats.)

Which do you prefer?

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Matsui, Nady, Giambi, Cano, Pudge/Molina

or this,

Damon, Jeter, Abreu, A-Rod, Nady, Giambi, Matsui, Pudge/Molina, Cano.

One way or another, the Yankees have to stop batting Giambi fifth.

I couldn't agree more. And I'd pick the first lineup. I like Matsui in that spot. He's always been clutch.

I like the first one too. I wish Girardi would actually do this. Giambi is killing us.

Well you knew he'd have a good night on the night I posted this. It had to happen.

The Big G does want to bat fifth, thank you all very much.
