Yanks Watch Garcia Throw

From

The Yankees and Mets were among about 15 teams to scout Freddy Garcia's workout yesterday in Miami.

Agent Peter Greenberg said he hopes to have Garcia signed with a team "quickly" and expects Garcia to need four or five minor-league starts before he can help a big-league team in September.

Garcia, 33, has won 13 games in a season seven times, including and 18-6 mark for the 2001 Seattle Mariners and a 17-9 record for the 2006 Chicago White Sox.

Yankees general manager Brian Cashman would not acknowledge scouting Garcia yesterday, but Rick Williams represented the Yankees at the workout.

Garcia played long toss, warmed up and then threw two simulated innings of 15 pitches at the University of Miami. He threw fastballs (86 to 87 mph), curves, sliders and changeups.

"I think it went as well as we could have hoped," Greenberg said. "I think the scouts were impressed. We'd like to get him signed as quickly as possible.

"Everybody knows what Freddy can do if he's healthy. We just wanted to show that he is healthy."

There's been talk about Garcia all summer, and now it looks like he's almost ready to go. Should the Yankees sign him? Well if they don't fall any further behind the Sox and Rays, I don't see how it can hurt.

yeah, he was very good with the White Sox in the playoffs and World Series. His Cumulative Postseason ERA is 3.11, with a 6-2 record. He has alot of experience, and as long as his stuff is there, they should definitely sign him. Hes better than Rasner/ Ponson. Lets see how Giese does before I we say whos better, Giese-the Aaron Small of 2008?

"Giese-the Aaron Small of 2008?"

Before that Met game I might have said yes, but Small never got hit that hard in '05.
