9/1 Minor League Report

We are lucky enough to have a SWB report from BigGuy tonight. He won't be doing these all the time by when he does I will post them. Thanks BG for the great contributions.

(AAA) Scranton (88-56) lost to Syracuse 4-2: Box Score - Recap

The SWB Yanks finished the regular season with a 4-2 loss at Syracuse. SWB ended up with the best record in the Interational League for the 2nd year in a row at 88-56. They play Pawtucket in the first round of the playoffs starting Wednesday.

PITCHING: Phil Hughes got the start and allowed 1 run in 5.2 innings on just 4 hits. Hughes had 8 strikeouts and 4 walks. He threw 104 pitches---67 for strikes. His ERA is at 5.90. He left the game with a 2-1 lead.

1st Inning: Hughes threw a scoreless 1st inning with a runner reaching on an error and stealing
2nd base. Hughes got a strikeout on Kevin Mench. 17 pitches---11 strikes.

2nd Inning: Hughes picked up 2 more strikeouts and gave up a walk. 18 pitches--10 strikes.

3rd Inning: After 2 strikeouts a double and rbi single gave Syracuse a run to make the score SWB 2-1 at the time. 56 pitches--35 strikes.

4th Inning: A 2 out walk and error put 2 men on base, but Hughes worked out of the jam.
71 pitches---45 strikes thru 4 innings.

5th Inning: 2 more strikeouts, walk, and single. 87 pitches--57 thru 5 innings.

6th Inning: A strikeout, walk and infield hit that could have been scored an error, and Hughes was relieved by Zach Kroenke. He left the game with a 2-1 lead.

Zach Kroenke relieved Hughes and got final 2 outs of the 6th inning. Kroenke pitched a perfect 7th inning. ... Scott Patterson came on in the 8th and blew the 2-1 lead being charged with 3 runs. The key blow a 2-run homer to give Syracuse the 4-2 lead. ... Scott Strickland relieved Patterson and gave up an rbi double with the run being charged to Patterson.

OFFENSE: Shawn Marcum, down from Toronto, got the start for Syracuse. ... SWB broke out to a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning when Ben Broussard tripled and Nick Green had a RBI double. ... In the 3rd, Justin Christian walked, stole 2nd base, moved to 3rd on an error, and scored on Matt Carson's RBI sac fly to give SWB a 2-0 lead. SWB threatened a few times but couldn't score.

NOTES: Phil Hughes came into the game with righties batting .152 and lefties 4.42 against him. ... Billy Traber DFA'd., Chad Moeller and Phil Coke promoted to NY. Relievers Zach Kroenke and Oneli Perez, and catcher Jason Brown added to SWB roster. ... Chase Wright gets the start against Charlie Zink in game 1 of the playoffs Wed. at Pawtucket.
