9/3 Minor League Report (Playoff Edition)

PITCHING: Chase Wright (2-1) got the start for the Yankees. Wright came into the game with a 2.41 ERA and BAA of .201 Wright held the Red Sox scoreless thru the first 4 innings. He allowed a walk each inning plus a single in the 3rd and 4th innings. ... In the 5th, Gil Velazquez led off with a homer to make the score SWB 3-1. Wright' s 5th walk, a single, and HBP, loaded the bases with 2 outs. Wright was relieved at that point by Steven Jackson. Wright's line: 4.2 IP, 1 run, 4 hits, 4 K's--5 walks, 87 pitches--49 strikes 8 groundouts - 1 flyout.

Steven Jackson relieved Wright with the bases loaded and 2 out in the 5th and got a strikeout to get out of the jam. ... Jackson threw a scoreless 6th inning picking up 2 more strikeouts and giving up a double. ... Jackson gave up a single to start the 7th and was relieved by Zach Kroenke. Kroenke got 2 outs and gave up 2 singles before being relieved by David Robertston. Robertson got the final out of the 7th. ... Robertson loaded the bases in the 8th on a hit and 2 walks and got out of the jam with the help of 3 strikeouts. ... Scott Strickland came on to pitch a perfect 9th, picking up 2 strikeouts. Steven Jackson picked up the win.

OFFENSE:
The Yankees broke out to a 3-0 lead in the 4th inningoff Pawtucket starter Charlie Zink. Eric Duncan walked and stole 2nd base. Chris Stewart drove in Duncan with a double. Chris Basak singled and Justin Christian followed with a 2-run homer. The Yankees picked up 3 more runs in the 6th starting with a leadoff homer by Chris Stewart. Chris Basak doubled, a passed ball, Justin Christian walk, Melky Cabrera RBI sac fly, and Juan Miranda RBI single made the score SWB 6-1. ... Ben Broussard hit a solo homer in the 9th to make the final score SWB 7 Pawtucket 1.

NOTES: Melky Cabrea was 1-4 with a single and RBI sac fly. Ian Kennedy goes against DaVern Hansack in game 2 at Pawtucket. Games 3-5 if needed will be played at SWB starting Friday. ... Former SWB player Jason Lane, now playing for Pawtucket, was ejected for arguing a called 3rd strike in the 1st inning. ... In the other half of the AAA playoffs, Durham defeated Louisville 3-0. ... Yankees AA Trenton defeated Portland in their 1st playoff game.
