(AAA) Scranton-Wilkes Barre (88-56) beat Pawtucket 2-0 in game 4 of the International League playoffs (SWB wins series 3-1.): Box Score - Recap
In the most exciting game of the year, the SWB Yankees defeated the Pawtucket Red Sox 2-0 to clinch the 1st round of the International League playoffs. The game went 10 innings with SWB getting the win in the bottom of the 10th on a walk-off two-run homer by Shelley Duncan. Phil Hughes and Bartolo Colon were both outstanding. The game was scoreless after 9 innings. SWB meets Durham Tuesday in the championship round for the Governor's Cup. Durham defeated Louisville 3 games to 1 in their series.
PITCHING: Phil Hughes was outstanding in this game. He threw 8 scoreless innings, allowing only 4 singles. He had 11 strikeouts, 9 thru the first 5 innings. Hughes did not allow a walk. All his pitches were working and he had very good command. His fastball was sitting 91-93 and topped out at 94. Hughes allowed a 2-out single in the 3rd inning. The only jam he had came in the 4th when he got 2 quick outs and gave up 2 singles, but worked out of the jam. He also allowed a leadoff single in the 6th. Hughes threw 94 pitches--75 for strikes. 7 groundouts-6 flyouts.
Scott Strickland came on to pitch the 9th. Pawtucket got a single and HBP to threaten, but Strickland worked out of the jam. Strickland pitched a perfect 9th inning and got the win.
OFFENSE: Bartolo Colon was just as impressive as Hughes. He held SWB to only 2 singles over 7.2 innings. Justin Christian led off the game with a single. The only threat off Colon came in the 3rd inning when Nick Green got the other single and moved to 2nd on a Chris Stewart sac bunt. Colon worked out of the jam.
In the bottom of the 10th inning with the game scoreless, Bernie Castro led off with a double and moved to 3rd on a throwing error. Pawtucket reliever Hunter Jones struck out Juan Miranda for the 1st out. Edgar Martinez came on to face Shelley Duncan. Duncan then won the game with his walk-off 2-run homer.
Notes: The SWB Yanks take on the Durham Bulls for the Governer's Cup.

(AA) Trenton (86-54): Trenton will face Akron in the Eastern League Championship Series. Eric Hacker will pitch game one of the series on Tuesday in Trenton.
(High A) Tampa (72-65 overall; 35-32 in 2nd half): Tampa finished in second place, and did not make the playoffs.(Low A) Charleston (80-59 overall; 35-34 in second half) Charleston's season is over, they finished in third place, and did not make the playoffs.
(Low A Short-Season) Staten Island (49-26): Tonight's regular season finale was rained out. They finished the season with the best record in the NY-Penn League. The Yanks will face the Jamestown Jammers in the first round of the playoffs, the series will begin on Monday.
(Rookie) GCL Yankees (31-27): Their season is finished, they finished with a 31 - 27 record, in 2nd place in the GCL North division.

Great game for Hughes. I read somewhere that Shelley Duncan said it was the best he's ever seen him. Should be interesting to see what happens to Hughes next year.
Yep, here's the exact quote from Chad Jennings' blog:
“I can’t tell you how amazing it was watching Phil on the mound today," Duncan said. "That’s the best I’ve ever seen him pitch. He commanded all his pitches. He kept the hitters off balance, threw it where he needed to throw it. It was a special thing playing behind him.”
