It's a shame this team has nothing to play for, because they have really been playing some very good baseball lately. Tonight, even with their B team, well actually it was more like their C team; they were able to beat A.J. Burnett and the Toronto Blue Jays tonight by the score of 6-2. The win was the Yankees seventh in a row.

Phil Hughes made his final start of the '08 campaign, and pitched his best game of the year. In 8 innings Hughes allowed two runs on five hits, struck out six, and did not walk a batter. This is the Phil Hughes a lot of people expected coming into this season, and hopefully next year we see a lot more of this from Phil.

He threw 71 of his 100 pitches for strikes, challenged hitters, and, for the first time in a long time, pitched like he wasn't afraid of major league hitters. His curve ball - for the most part - was excellent, and the addition of that cutter looks like it's really going to help him a lot. The only mistake he made on the night was a hanging curve to Scott Rolen that Rolen deposited over the wall in left field for a solo homer to give the Jays their second run.

But even with tonight's great performance Hughes will still go winless on the year. That's because A.J. Burnett was once again very impressive against the Yanks. Holding them to just two runs over 8 strong innings. The only runs came in the 3rd inning, when with runners on 2nd and 3rd with two out, Xavier Nady lined a two-run single up the middle to give the Yanks an early two run lead.

With the score tied 2-2 in the 10th the Yankees had the bases loaded with just one night, when Bobby Abreu launched a grand slam homer to right to put the Yankees up 6-2. The homer was Abreu 20th, and it's the first time Abreu has hit 20 or more home runs since 2005. He is also just one RBI shy of 100 RBI on the season.

Juan Miranda picked up his first big league hit tonight, a single in the 4th off Burnett.

If we are to bring back Moose and Andy, and let's say we also brig in CC, then there is no room for Hughes. We can and should trade Hughes.

For who? Unless they can get something really good in return, I wouldn't trade Hughes.

And what if somebody gets hurt next year? You wanna be stuck with the likes of Darrell Rasner again?

Hughes is too good for AAA so they would be wasting him down in the minors. I think Hughes makes sense for a lot of NL teams trying to build a team around youth, like Cincinnati. I have heard in the past about some talk about Votto, and that would be a trade I would make in a heartbeat. I know the Yankees are going to go after Tex but why throw so much money at one guy when you can get a guy with the same production. Votto is younger, cheaper, and will give you 300.-30 homers-100 RBI's numbers very soon, quite possibly starting next year.

Hughes was great last night, but seriously, if we could get Fielder or some big slugger, wouldn't you trade him?

Fielder is a fat slob and will be a DH very soon, so I wouldn't want to trade for him under any circumstances. Fielder's zone rating is the second worst out of any NL first baseman, and is just .006 points higher than Jason Giambi's which was the worst in the AL this year. The Yankees don't need another DH.

A first baseman or center fielder who can hit, and actually play some defense, then I'd probably say yes to trading him.
