Nice win for the Yankees tonight over a very tough Rays team in Tampa. Mike Mussina was once again great, and picked up his 17th win of the season. He went six+ innings, allowing just two runs on ten scattered hits, while striking out eight and walking just one. Is there any doubt who this team's MVP has been?

Damaso Marte did a good job in relief of Moose, striking out two of the three batters he faced.

Joba Chamberlain made his return to the mound tonight, and though his velocity was down he pitched very well. In an inning and a third, Joba allowed no runs, on just one hit and a walk. He said after the game that his mechanics were off which is why his velocity was down. After spending all that time on the DL this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.

Dan Giese also made a triumphant return from the DL, pitching a 1-2-3 9th, including one strikeout.

For the second game in a row the Yankees offense performed as we expected and it to. They actually did the little things; they moved runners along, they got timely hits with runners in scoring position, and they even played a little small ball.

And how about that blast by Nady hit off the catwalk? What a shot! I wonder where that would have landed at Yankee Stadium.

In the 8th inning Alex Rodriguez tied Hall of Famer Mike Schmidt for 12th all time with his 548th homer of his career.

Nady's blast was enormous, maybe the biggest I've seen in that so-called stadium. It ripped into the crow's nest above the upper catwalk, banging into the highest support pole. I remember Strawberry getting screwed out of a homer in right field on a moon shot, I think in 1998 or 1999, before they started ruling balls hit into orbit yet off that laughable catwalk homers.
