From George A. King III:
Mariano Rivera is likely to need a surgical cleanup procedure on his sore right shoulder. After leaving the Yankees yesterday to undergo an MRI exam in New York, the reliever today sought a second opinion from Dr. David Altchek and it looks like Rivera will have surgery to ease what is being called "aggravation."
Rivera had told friends he believed the discomfort in the shoulder was the result of bone spurs and would require surgery.
It was mentioned by The Times' Tyler Kepner last night that the surgery "would be minor and would not be expected to affect him next spring," so as scary as the word "Mariano Rivera to have surgery" may be for Yankees fans, we all shouldn't be too worried about this because it's probably not a big deal.
(As soon as I hear about the MRI results I will post them. Probably in this post as an update.)
