Yankees @ Angels Series Preview

Yankees @ Angels
Angels Stadium
(3 games)

How are the Yankees rewarded for losing two of three against the worst team in baseball? They have to play three against the best team in baseball. This is the last leg of this 10 game, four city road trip for the Yanks that has seem them go 4-3 in the first seven games.

Playoff hopes for the Yankees are virtually dead. They sit 8.5 games behind the Red Sox in the wild card with just 19 games to go. They are also 10 games behind the Rays in the division race, and they are in fourth place in the AL East. This is the latest the Yanks have been in fourth since 1992.

The Angels have ran away with the AL West, and could clinch the division as soon as tomorrow. They come into this series with the best record in baseball at 86-56, and currently lead the season series with the Yanks five games to two.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Yankees - Xavier Nady: The X-Man has killed the Angels this season hitting an insane .524/.583/1.000 with 3 HR and 9 RBI in six games against Halos. Most of the damage came at Yankee Stadium, but his numbers in Anaheim are also good; .400/.500/.700 with a homer a 2 RBI.

Besides this season he's only played in three other games against the Angels, and for his career he's hitting .412/.459/.735 with 3 HR and 10 RBI against them.

Nady vs. Garland: 3-for-8, 2B, HR, 3 RBI, .375/.444/.875
Nady vs. Weaver: 3-for-5, HR, 2 RBI, .600/.600/1.200
Nady vs. Santana: NR

Angels - Chone Figgins: I originally had Howie Kendrick here, but then realized he was injured, so I replaced him with another thorn in the Yankees side, Chone Figgins.

Figgins is hitting .326/.381/.409, 2 HR, 21 RBI and 13 SB against the Yanks in his career. This season he's hitting .375/.394/.406 with 4 RBI and 3 SB.

Figgins vs. Aceves: NR
Figgins vs. Pettitte: 5-for-11, 3 RBI, .455/.455/.455

For those who were wondering, yes I'm a moron. I wrote the players to watch section before the injuries report section, which is why I chose Howie Kendrick. I just realize he was on the DL, so he has been removed in place of another Yankee-Killer, Chone Figgins.
