From NJ.com:
Rumors of a Derek Lowe-to-Yankees move this offseason started before the Dodgers were even eliminated from the playoffs. However, a recent article in The Boston Globe suggests Derek Lowe has the Boston Red Sox atop his list of places of interest. The article goes on to say that Lowe has a list of teams he'd like to play for and that the Yankees aren't at the top of his list.Lowe played with the Red Sox in the past, leaving in 2004 for the now expired contract in Los Angeles. The Boston Globe has this to say:
Lowe told this reporter that while money is important, he wants to go to a quality organization committed to winning, and no organization, in his mind, fits that description better than Boston.
Like I said about Peavy, if you don't want to be here we don't want you. I never wanted Lowe to begin with; the last time he pitched in the AL East he had an ERA of 5.42.

this news doensn't bother me. i like our vets pettitte and moose better anyway.
so if we were supposed to get 2 of the cc, burnett, lowe group, i guess that means cc and burnett are the 2 we will try to sign. also i wouldnt rule out oliver perez, especially if pettitte doesnt come back for some reason.
I agree, Pettitte or Moose would be better than Lowe.
And yes I'd take CC and Burnett as the two of those three any day of the week.
No problem at all. He was never on my list!
Mike
Go make the Red Sox stinl Lowe. U will make me proud.
Thank God!!!
I didn't want Lowe to begin with. Pettitte can provide the same production next year on a 1 yr deal that Lowe would provide on a 4 yr deal. I'll take Pettitte
If the Yanks get C.C. and maybe Burnett for the rotation next year... watch out
I was never really that impressed with Lowe anyway, but do you think there may be a perception among good players that the Yankees have no real direction or organizational leadership now? Maybe even the coaching staff may be a turn off to players? Remember there used to be a time when players like Roberto Alomar would say their one regret was never getting to play for George or the Yankees. Maybe without his presence there, the luster is gone? Maybe it's not having a veteran figure who manages people well like Torre? Maybe players don't feel comfortable putting their careers in the hands of a guy like Girardi and his coaches, who can theorize well about x's, o's and new approaches, but don't really look like they are good at managing real people?
I share some of those concerns Danny. Torre always seemed to attract players to NY, so far we have not seen that from Girardi. We'll see what happens with guys like CC, Burnett and Teixeira.
Wonderful insights, Danny. I tend to agree when you say that many players might feel there's no real organizational leadership. Of course, that would mean owners, GM, and manager (and perhaps coaches).
Good, thought-provoking post!
Mike
