Meacham Fired

From Ed Price:
The Yankees will not renew the contract of third-base coach Bobby Meacham, the team said today.

No replacement has been named, and the Yankees could not say whether the rest of the staff will remain intact. General manager Brian Cashman was not immediately available for comment.
We all know he wasn't a great third base coach, so this was expected. On Saturday it was reported that if Meacham was not brought back the Yankees could sign Luis "send 'em home" Sojo as his replacement - I'm not a fan of this idea at all. Look somewhere else Yanks.

UPDATE: Mark Feinsand is reporting that Yankees' special pitching instructor Rich Monteleone will also not be retained for 2009.

Thats too bad. But I wounder who will be the new 3rd base coach? I'm gussing Willie Randolph if he doesn't get another manager job.

I'd like to see Pena moved to 3rd and Tino Martinez brought in for 1st.

What was the logic of hiring Meacham in the first place? Can we send Thompson and Eiland with him?

I'd like to see Tino brought in too Mike.

Danny, what did Thompson or Eiland do wrong this year?

I never thought about Tino. That sounds like a great idea.

i wouldn't mind seeing tino at first...but i would really love to see paul o'neill there..

Eiland I thought did a good job this year. It's not his fault Ponson and Rasner had 30+ combined starts. He did fine in his 1st year as pitching coach

Meacham never struck me as being the ideal third base coach. Pena to third seems to make sense to me.

Greg, that's just it I'm asking what did they do at all? I saw a team go through a season on auto. I saw no ability to reach players and mentally prepare them for games. With the exception of Mussina, the pitching was disappointing and I'm including the injuries which I attribute to bad coaching and training approaches which I blame Eiland and Girardi for. I think Thompson and Eisland went through a season fumbling their way around a job that they weren't ready for. As is the case with Girardi I feel that it was too much to soon for these guys to be coaching on the Yankees staff without gaining experience elsewhere.
