Derek, one of this blog's loyal readers suggested this poll question and I felt with all the trade/free agent rumors starting to fly around that it was very fitting. So here goes.... Which free agent/trade rumor do you hope the Yanks pursue this off-season?
Here are the choices: (Please pick your top two.)
- Sign C.C. Sabathia
- Sign Mark Texeiria
- Sign A.J. Burnett
- Sign Derek Lowe
- Sign Manny Ramirez
- Trade Robinson Cano and sign Orlando Hudson
- Trade for Jake Peavy
- Trade for Adrian Gonzalez
The poll is to the left, so please take a few seconds and vote. You can also submit your own suggestions in the 'Other' box. Thank you.
I will be taking down the "Grade Joe Girardi" poll, here are those final results:
5% of voters (51 people) gave him an A
30% (311 people) gave him a B
41% (423 people) gave him a C
10% (105 people) gave him a D,
14% (150 people) gave him a F.
Most Yankees fans were more generous with their grades than I thought they would be; 76% of you gave him a C or higher.

I voted Manny and Peavy. Tex wants along term and big dollars contract which the Yanks are finally done with in Giambi.
CC scares me because of his weight and his post season record.
Yanks can do better spreading all of that money around instead of breaking the bank on 2 players.
we can actually keep cano for another year, because brian roberts is a free agent after next year. i dont know if he will still be a year from now, but i've always like him. him and jeter always seem to makeout on the field,( after roberts hits a double they look they're best friends talking to each other) i dont know if you ever noticed. what is roberts like 30? and hudson is like 31-32ish. just an idea, if nothing is there for the yankees.
Manny and Sign Hudson
CC and Tex. I would stay far far away from Lowe and Burnett. Only trade Cano for a top pitcher, than sign Hudson or trade for Kelly Johnson. Peavy would be great especially if we got CC as well.
cc and peavy, o man id give a kidney for that.

Too bad for Joe. The Dodgers are loosing 8-2 in the 4th. I was rootin' for them, but their gonna loose.
So, let's just hope that Tampa crushes the Sox.
I would take Manny for the DH and trade Cano and sign Hudson. Signing CC or Burnett and throwing bags of cash around is simply being reactionary to not signing Santan. Just like Pavano, Wright, and Kevin Brown were reactionary to not getting Beckett and the Sox getting Schilling on the sly. The Yankees need to start being proactive again in their pitching choices not just responding to all the right pitching moves Boston has made. Our pitching staff used to be something that supplemented an already fundamentally sound baseball team, not just a big expensive band aid slapped on to cover the festering wounds of bad, expensive roster choices.
Danny,
I agree with what you're saying about Wright and Kevin Brown, but you can't say the same thing about Pavano. Everyone wanted Pavano, including the Red Sox. That wasn't a bad move or a reactionary signing.
I also don't think signing CC would be either. He did win the Cy Young in the AL last year, and he's a very good pitcher.
Now, if they didn't sign CC and threw a ton of money at AJ Burnett I would agree that that would be a reactionary move that probably would make little sense.
You are on the money, Danny. The Yankees NEED to be smart about who they get and how much money they give away. Pavano, Wright , and Brown were a waste of money......... Same thing with Randy Johnson.
Greg,
I know every one wanted him when he was a free-agent, but after 4 years with the Yankees, he only threw 13 starts. So after all of that, that was a waste of time.
You have to look at it as we did BEFORE the injuries. Pavano was a good pitcher who most teams wanted.
You can't blame the organization for that move. The others? Fine, go ahead.
Thats true, but infortantly I was too young to remember what hes done before coming to the Yankees. I was probably 7 years old at the time when the Yankees lost in 03.
Hey people,
I had to add another rumor to the list; this one is trading for Adrian Gonzalez. It's been going around the inter-webs today and I like the idea, so I figured it belonged on the poll.
