Braves Out of Peavy Sweepstakes?

According to Ken Rosenthal they are:
The Atlanta Braves are out of the Jake Peavy sweepstakes.

"We have moved on," Braves general manager Frank Wren told FOXSports.com on Friday. "We had our last discussion with San Diego yesterday and let them know that if the final names we were discussing wouldn't get it done, we would move on to other opportunities, other possibilities."

The Braves will now pursue starting pitchers on the free agent market, and their targets include right-handers Derek Lowe, A.J. Burnett and Ryan Dempster.

Padres general manager Kevin Towers told the San Diego Union-Tribune on Thursday that he may seek to trade Peavy to the Yankees or Angels because of his inability to reach an agreement with the Braves or Cubs.
I still don't like the idea of trading the farm for Peavy, but what I think doesn't matter. It seems that this recent development may have opened the doors for the Yankees to make a deal, which will make many of you happy.

My question to you is, what would you give up for Jake Peavy?

not what san diego will be asking for. if it becomes quantity like the mets and twins last year, than i'd make a deal. i would be willing to center a deal around hughes or jackson, not both. i would happy with just signing cc and d.lowe and keeping the farm.

Well Atlanta was rumored to be centering their deal around Yunel Escobar, a okay SS, so Jackson is where I would start. How about Kennedy, Jackson, and another Minor league player for Peavy. We keep Hughes, and Cano.

easy answer: no one

ok first lets start by saying behind Santana Peavy is the best pitcher in baseball and hes on the good side of 30 and signed till 2013 (assuming that the aquireing team has to pick up his option as part of the deal) So I would say The Padres would ask for Jackson,Hughes,Cano and a second tier minor leauger. The Yankees if they seriously want peavy would counter with Hughes,Jackson,Ipk and a list of minor leaugers that the padres could choose from. example one of the following. Chase Wright, Melky Cabrara, Justin Christian, or Shelly Duncann

Yankees guy, do you really think Peavy is that good? The second best pitcher in baseball? What about guys like Lincecum, Halladay, Webb, Sabathia, etc.?

looking at a number of factors I would definately say hes that good. You can't Look at just wins and Losses because the Padres suck. But he has 200 less hits than innings pitches the last two seasons he has had an ERA under 3 .You are correct about Holladay being an absolute stud but hes 4 years older and probably on the downside of his career. (not saying that hes not awesome) Sabathia is probably better but the yankees are already going to sign him. Lincicum only has one year of greatness and will probably be much better in the future but his downside is that he walks to many batters and his herky jerky motion scares me that he might not be healthy over the years if the Yankees had a rotation of
cc
Peavy
wang
Joba
Pettite
Hughes
They would have 5 starters on the good side of 30 and lets not forget that Wang is a two time 19 game winner and he is only 28

I'll tell you who I WOULDN'T give up for Peavy.

-Hughes
-Jackson

And therein lies the problem. If Atlanta and ChicagoC couldn't land him, then that probably means that San Diego was asking for the World in this trade. Same thing happened with the Twins last year with Santana.

"Hey can we have Phil Hughes?"
"No."
"Fine... we'll take Wang then."
"See ya."

Stay far, far away Cashman. Keep the prospects or, if you have to deal them, do so for a player who wants to be a Yankee...Not to mention Petco numbers, National League numbers, previous arm issues, etc...

I wouldn't give much for him, Yankee Guy called him the second or third best pitcher and said not to look at the wins cause the Padres suck, all teams in the NL West suck and I think that’s why his ERA is so low all the time. Its going to be a different story if he is traded to NYY and face the AL specially the now deep AL East, you saw the dominance CC and Johan showed after they were moved to the NL and that’s for a reason.
I'll give up McAllister/IPK, Cabrera, Wright/Aceves and Horne that’s it if they don't like it fine they're plenty of good arms in FA if they get hurt at least we still have the Farm guys to call up.

Yes all the NL west sucks but all the scouts can't be wrong, Peavy has great stuff. I don't think the Yankees have what it will take to get him either and for the record i wouldn't give up Jackson and Hughes either. But I might give up one of them and some lesser peices. We don't know what the Padres are really looking for. Cashman can be suprising sometimes and can get gold for a handful of beans other times he gives up greatness for a pile of dog poop.
