Feinsand: Yanks Still Have Their Sights On Teixeira

From Mark Feinsand:
The Yankees have made their desire for CC Sabathia well known. But when it comes to Mark Teixeira, could the Bombers be laying in the weeds?

GM Brian Cashman has been saying very little when it comes to this year's free-agent market, but a source familiar with the team's thinking said that while starting pitching is clearly the Yankees' priority, adding another impact hitter is also one of the team's goals this winter.

"The Yankees may be focused on pitching, but don't think for a second that they wouldn't still love to land a big bat," the source said. "They need another RBI man in that lineup - and they're going to get one."

There has been reports that the Angels are going to offer Teixeira a deal based around the 8 years $153 MM that Miguel Cabrera got. Maybe something for the same money over 7 years or something like that.

Teixeira also has said that he would like to be signed by Christmas morning.

The Feinsand article also mentions that the Yanks remain interesting possibly trading for the Royals' David Dejesus, who may now be available since the Royals acquired Coco Crisp from the Sox.

If you're wondering about what would happen with Nick Swisher if they signed Teixeira there are two options; make his a super utility guy, or as Michael Siverman of The Boston Herald says they could trade him to another team.
The Yanks did deal for Nick Swisher, more of a first baseman than outfielder, but one industry source suggested this move could be a prelude to another deal with a National League club, keeping first base open for Teixeira.

Awesome... even if they sign C.C... the Yankees have the finances to easily sign Teixeira as well. C.C. and Teixeira and Cashman will have done his job on the FA market.

I hope they don't blow their chance to reestablish themself as a baseball powerhouse

As I hoped earlier, perhaps they got Swisher to use him as trade bait. If we get Tex, that would suit me just fine.
