Derek Jeter Friday revealed he had spoken to Sabathia -- the Yankees' top target in free agency -- in recent weeks about playing in pinstripes.
Sure you don't Jeter, sure you don't.Many believe Sabathia prefers to stay in the National League, where he helped pitch the Milwaukee Brewers into the playoffs after being traded from the Cleveland Indians. But the fact that Sabathia picked Jeter's brain should give the Yankees hope of landing the ace lefty.
"He's asked questions, yeah, about it," said Jeter, who got to know Sabathia as an opponent and All-Star Game teammate. "I'll leave it at that.
"I'm not trying to sell anyone on New York. I don't think you have to sell people on playing in this organization. People have questions, but it's not like I have a sales pitch."
Tim Dierkes of MLBTradeRumors.com told SNY.tv today that Sabathia will likely been signed quickly, and could be the first big name to be signed. Sabathia apparently doesn't want this process to be dragged out.
It's looking more and more likely that Sabathia will be joining the Yankees sometime in early December.

So Jeter is making calls that maybe the manager should be making to entice players to want to play for him. I'm sorry but was Joe Torre really that bad that the Yankees felt like chasing out their best recruiter.
Why not Jeter..?? Surely you knew he would outlast Torre, no..??
Danny,
I totally agree that Torre was a) the best recruiter they had and b) did not need to be run out of town. But I also have no problem with Jeter doing the recruiting now. A lot of ballplayers really like Jeter and respect him, so this should help matters.
I'm not knocking Jeter, I'm knocking Girardi's attitude and detachment from players, not only his own but even perspective players who he won't talk to. It looks like Jeter's going have to wear many hats over the next few years.

Can't disagree with you there Danny.
Well, the earlier C.C. is signed, the quicker they can get Teixeira
