Sabathia Offer Has a Deadline?

From ESPN:
CC Sabathia will have a deadline to accept the New York Yankees' contract proposal.

"We've made him an offer. It's not going to be there forever," Hal Steinbrenner said Thursday after he was approved as the team's new controlling owner during a meeting at Major League Baseball headquarters.

Greg Genske, Sabathia's agent, did not return a telephone message seeking comment.

I don't know if this was necessary, but maybe it will move this thing a long.

No team will come close to the $150Mill, but I'm concerned by Sabathia's silence. Is his silence speaking a thousand words? as if he doesn't want to play in NY and is hoping for a west coast team to get involved? If that's the case , the yanks can still get some guns via free agency and trades perhaps.

Why is everyone expecting CC and his agent to jump all over the Yanks proposal, he is going to wait what else is out there or if they can bring the price tag up, everybody does. It happen every year this is not like other sports where players sign the 1st day of FA. Even if CC wants to ply for the Yanks it'll be stupid of his agent to only look at one offer maybe they can get another team in the mix so they can get an extra year or 10 mil.

No other team is going over the Yanks mark. 6 years 140/145 mil will be the top offer for Sabathia. Truth is he wants to stay in the NL and he wants to hit. He will take less money from an NL team and be perfectly happy.

the player's union will want him to take the highest offer becuase it helps determine the annual salaries for the remaining and future free agent pitchers too. The union wants to squeeze the owners for as much as possible.

I'm with Eliezer. Why should CC or his agent respond right away? They have offers from the Brewers and the Yanks. Why not wait and see what else is out there? No one's gonna offer what we're offering, but it's his right to test the waters.

We don't know that, the same way TX came up with big money for A-Rod and SF for Zito you just can't discount teams and owners will anymore, I can see the Giants, Angels, Dodgers and even the Red Sox going all out for the guy just to make us overpay for him and keep us from going after other big ticket FA. That’s the nature of the game.
