Yanks Not Likely To Land Cameron (YES!)

From Newsday:
The Yankees have held talks with the Brewers about acquiring centerfielder Mike Cameron, but as the general managers' meetings wrapped up yesterday in Dana Point, Calif., they were not optimistic about landing him.

The Yankees have interest in upgrading in centerfield, though a source called getting Cameron "unlikely." Improving in centerfield ranks far below starting pitching on their priority list, and also below acquiring one more big bat.

GM Brian Cashman's goal for the week was to lay groundwork for potential pitching deals, whether in free agency or on the trade market. Everything else took a back seat to that.
Talks with the Brewers about Cameron began before this week's meetings, although word leaked out only the past couple of days. Yankees centerfielder Melky Cabrera and righthanded pitcher Ian Kennedy have been discussed, although a source said the Yankees are not inclined to include Kennedy in such a trade.
Good, I never like this idea.

Melky and Kennedy can now be used in other deals that would help this team more, and is Mike Cameron really the answer for centerfield? I don't think so. The Yankees have enough aging veterans on the team, they need to get younger and a 36 year old Mike Cameron does the exact opposite.

I know a lot of people are against this, but I really think the Yankees should give Brett Gardner a chance. You don't give up on young players after 100 at-bats, especially young players who can run and play defense like he can.

Don't know about Gardner, but I'm glad Cameron appears out.

i like gardner, i would like to give him a shot if nothing amazing is out there.

did u see the ny posts article on possibly trading cano to the dodgers for martin or kemp. i wouldnt mind getting martin, moving posada to first, and signing hudson. but since that means we wouldnt get tex, i would the like to trade matsui and sign manny to dh.

i dont know why LA would trade russell martin though. hes a .300/ 20 hr/ 80-90 rbi guy, with pretty good speed( especially for a catcher) and good defense.

I've heard rumors about that deal, but have not seen that article. Could you give me the link? I'd like to post something about that.

Nevermind I found it... I think he has a bad attitude, I've heard the same thing about Kemp. But if they had to trade Cano, I wouldn't mind either of them. But as Sherman said, it's more likely that Cano will remain in NY.

I'm with you, Greg. I'd like to give Gardner a chance if nobody outstanding is out there. He was starting to come around offensively (they actually taught him to bunt - what a concept), and he could steal a ton of bases for us.

They have Austin Jackson down in the minors too, I still agree that I don't like the Cameron option either. I wouldn't mind seeing Melky and Kennedy for Peavy, then we can bring up Gardner or jackson and throw them into the fire.

Rad, if they could somehow get a deal like that done I'd drive Melky and Kennedy to the airport myself. With that said, I'd be shocked if the Yankees could get Peavy without giving up Hughes + Cano.
