A.J. Tells Yankee They Will Be Teammates

From Joel Sherman and George A. King III:

Talking to a Yankee recently, A.J. Burnett informed the player they were going to be teammates.

"He wants to come to New York - those words came out of his mouth," the player told The Post last night. "He really wants to play here."

Hal Steinbrenner spoke with Kat O'Brien and Ken Davidoff and is also confident the Yanks will land Burnett:
"We're interested in him and he's interested in us," Steinbrenner, the Yankees' control person, said of Burnett in a telephone interview with Newsday. "Obviously, New York has a lot to offer, and playing for the Yankees is just a great thing."

Steinbrenner said he is "optimistic" about Burnett, though he qualified that by saying: "I'm always optimistic."
The Yankees currently have a five-year $80-85 million dollar offer on the table.

Just like Manny, I'm starting to think more and more now that the Yankees should get A.J.. There's really no garuntee that he will get hurt, but I'm with ya in saying he shouldn't get 5 years.

Holy shit! The Yanks got Burnett for 5 years for $82.2 million. I heard it on Mike Fancesca.

We still need TEX!! Pitching is set. But we lost Giambi (.370 on base percentage) and Abreu .300 20 100 guy. We need a BIG bat in the line-up. Sign Tex and I dont care what else they do...ONE MORE BIG MOVE PLEASE!!!

Peter you're right, they do need Teixeira. If you ask me it's a no brainer.

Yes, we lost Giambi and Abreu. But we're gaining (cross your fingers), full seasons from Matsui and Posada, a full season from Nady (we only had him for half the year), and hopefully bounce back years from Cano and Swisher. That alone more than compensates for the losses.

I'd love to add Teixeira, but I'm confident in the offense as a whole without him to score enough runs to win.
