Fresh off his acquisition of solid veteran starting pitcher Javier Vazquez to bolster the Braves' rotation, GM Fran Wren said in an interview with SI.com they are in the mix for free agent pitcher A.J. Burnett but suggested that previous trade target Jake Peavy is not on their radar now.Mark Feinsand agrees that they're not setting their sights are Burnett and may be ready to make a 5-year offer to Burnett. Heyman also mentions that there was some chatter about the Braves willingness to go five years with Burnett.

Good. Never wanted Burnett. If the Padres really think they need to get rid of Peavy, then now is the time for the Yanks to jump in. The Padres may become pretty desperate so the Yanks should offer them Kennedy, Melky, and one of their surplus of relievers. See if the Padres will give in. If Peavy wants an extension, give it too him. I'd rather give Peavy 5 years instead of Burnett.
I agree. I'd take Peavy over Burnett. And with Burnett in the NL, we wouldn't have to face him.
this isnt about peavy or burnett its about the stadium.
does anyone know which bullpen is the yankees? left field or right field?
Joe, I'm not sure which side the Yankees are going to be on. I'm assuming it will be on the right field side cause that's closer to the Yankees pen.
Anon, I'd take Peavy for Melky and Kennedy in a heartbeat. And I agree with She-fan I'd rather see the Yankees get Peavy over Burnett.
They are crazy.
I actually would also see the Yankees sign Sheets for 2 or 3 years instead of giving Burnett 5 years - even with the injury concerns. Burnett, as we all know, also has his own injuries issues so it's the same sort of risks for less money and less years.
The Yankees better jump in and make the trade. Sign Derek Lowe and then hope CC signs.. those three would look nice this Chrismas and give us the best Rotation..
Thats
CC
Peavy
Joba
Wang
Lowe
I like the idea anon, but I'd much rather sign Pettitte for one year - even for $16 million - than give Lowe the 4 or 5 years that he's looking for.
I am torn on Andy too.
But I like Lowe a lot, and it counters the Red Sox getting Lowe back. Lowe is that sinker ball pitcher like Wang - I woudl bring Andy back as well. Can never have enough starters. I think we have learned that the last couple of years.
I'm fine with bringing them both in, but if it's one or the other I'd rather have Andy for one year instead of Lowe for four or five.
And yes, you can NEVER have too much pitching.
That's why I would only trade Kennedy, Melky, and another prospect for Peavy. Let's assume we bring Andy back, sign CC, and trade for Peavy. That means we could have Hughes, Giese, and Aceves as backups. I could be forgetting somebody but I do not think so. I would not be opposed to signing Odalis Perez but only as a middle reliever/emergency starter.
Gotta be honest, if they trade for peavy. Its hughes who will be in the dea.. BET that. Kennedy has slipped so bad.. they should have traded him while his stock was high.
Anon,
That's probably true, and if that's the case I wouldn't make the deal. However, there is still a chance that the Padres get desperate. Nothing has happened so far and as time goes on there are fewer and fewer teams in the mix.
I tend to agree--that little boy Kennedy has lost his value.
