According to a source, Ramirez has told friends that he is confident the Yankees will offer him a contract of at least three years, one year longer than most team officials have said they would want to go.
Ramirez has been a hot topic inside the Yankees organization, according to an industry source, though not everybody within the team's hierarchy is in agreement when it comes to signing the enigmatic slugger. He also says that Manny is waiting until Mark Teixeira is signed before he gets serious about any offers, but we all knew that already.
Hank Steinbrenner is leading the charge for the signing, the source said, hoping to reload his roster after watching the Yankees miss the postseason this year for the first time since 1993. Hal Steinbrenner is said to be warming to the idea, while general manager Brian Cashman isn't too high on adding a 36-year-old outfielder with plenty of baggage.
From recent reports I think it's becoming more and more likely that the Yankees end up with either Manny or Mark Teixeira.

grega let me start by sayin i love ur nllog and specialy how u update us with the new yankee stadium piks its really great how u update us with that and getting back to the ramirez story i hope the yanks sign ramirez hes very clutch and we need dat big bat behind ramirez he makes this team better and remember we lost 2key free agents and they were a big part of our offense and u imagine that line up with arod 3rd and manny 4 wow this team can do sum serious things with that offense and im very satiesfied with the yanksss pitching and bullpen all we need is that big bat and i think is manny
I really hope that they get Teixeira. If they sign Manny the yankees defense would be horrible. Damon isn't a Centerfielder anymore and putting Manny in left would be bad. I dont want Manny he is everything that the yankees say they are not.
Their both good hitters so who gives a s***.
Greg, you do great work. I check everyday for Yankee construction updates the new stadium is going to be a masterpiece. But getting to my point so far this offseason all Mark Feinsand has been writing about in his articles has been about Manny and I am getting tired of it. We don't need Manny we Tex.
well TEX would be nice but BORAS wont let it happen, cuz he would lose the money from the yanks for manny, i say sign him for 2 years incentive based with a 3rd year TEAM option, he is great offensively but who knows if he is going to have a big payday and then play half-heartedly and have it take him 6 seconds to get to first base .. but it would be pretty interesting have him and AROD go HR for HR on their route to dethrone that worthless peice of trash they call BARRY BONDS
only thing is figure out where to put him .. him and damon in the same outfield 2/3 of the most horrific defensive outfield ever assembled .. set him up as a DH get rid of one of our DH/outfielder types like matsui or nady, actually keep nady i knod of like him hes got potential
To make a few points.. whether we sign Teixeira or not.. The outfield defense is going to have its issues at TIMES anyway.
Bottom line, Damon is better off in left. I feel good having him out there. Center.. both melky and Gardner are pretty good. RF.. Nady can handle that easy. YOU TRADE Hideki for some young pitching or pullpen. Sign Manny as our DH.
Team looks like this.
Damon Lf
Jeter ss
Nady RF or Cano.. either or
A Rod 3b
Manny DH
Posada C
Cano 2b or again, Nady
Swisher 1b
Gardner/Melky Cf or who ever has the best spring
That will get it done with the pitching we have. Let whoever gets Teixeira have him. If CF becomes that much of an issue.. we can always trade for one before the allstar break. or we can 1b too.
Basil
Why don't we deal Jeter and Mo to the Sox while we're at it. And maybe sign Varitek as a backup catcher to Posada. You people clamoring for Manny have zero respect for the Yankee/Red Sox rivalry. Let him stay in LA. Even if the Yankees don't land Tex, they have a solid enough offense to get the job done.
Mateo, what about Damon, Clemens and Boggs?
f manny
For most Yankee fans, Manny was the figure head unto which you directed your hate for the Red Sox. I've heard the Damon, Clemens, Boggs argument before. Even had it here. Damon is a likable guy. Boggs is a consummate professional. Neither was a figure easy to despise. As for Clemens, I never wanted him in a Yankee uniform. And even during his successful years in New York, I'd rather the Yankees not had him.
Fair enough.
I personally never really hated Manny as much as other Red Sox. I disliked him because of the uniform he was wearing, but I never really wished for him to get hurt like I do like other Sox, like Papelbon,Youkilis and Pedroia. That may make me sound like a dick, but I really HATE those guys. I would be happy if they never played ever again.
If we do get him, I think most, if not all of us will like him, because he can help us win in the playoffs. The regular season may have its ups and downs, but come playoff time he'll be the most feared batter in the league, and he will take alot of pressure of Arod.
With that said, I still would rather have Teixeira, like most Yankee fans. I think we'll see where he goes in the next couple of days....

Dear Mateo, Once Manny turned on them, he became my hero.. lol Damon was as much a part of those teams as Manny.. Damon has been good Yankee. Having Manny will only piss the nation off. I don't hate the player, I have the logo.. the team name.. the fans. But if a soxs fan ever jumped ship, became a Yankee fan. I would accept him too.
WE WANT MAN-RAM!!!
