Yanks Avoid Arbitration With Wang

According to Ed Price the Yankees have signed Chien-Ming Wang to a one-year $5 million deal. He made $4 million last year.

Yep, so game you saw.

To put in perspective, Wang will make in 2 seasons ($4M+$5M) less than CC is getting as a signing bonus before he throws one pitch.

Hey, CC went through his arbitration years already and made well below his value. Wang will get his payday in 2 years from somebody...most likely not the Yankees.

You don't think Wang will re-sign with the Yankees? Why wouldn't they sign him again? They have the money. If he continues to pitch like he has in the past, I see no reason why the Yankees wouldn't sign him. With the desperation for pitching, I don't see how the Yankees would go elsewhere for a veteran starter like Wang when they can just have Wang himself.

Now, if for some reason he declines greatly, then that's a different story, but I see Wang spending at least 6-8 more years with the Yankees. The guy has a .730 win percentage with the Yankees, he keeps the ball in the ballpark, and when he's on his game he goes deep into ball games with low pitch counts. I'd be awfully surprised if he leaves after 2010.

I'm confused by that too R.J.; why wouldn't the Yankees sign Wang? They'll probably extend him to a long-term deal before he hits the open market. Probably after this season.
