Garcia to Sign With Mets

Adam Rubin of the Daily News is reporting that the Mets and Freddy Garcia has agreed to a minor-league deal. He also reports that if Garcia reaches all of his incentives the deal could be worth as much a $8-$9 million.

From recent reports that would leave Ben Sheets and Andy Pettitte as the only pitchers left on the Yankees radar.

Sheets please!!! (drooling over potential rotation)

The good thing is that between Hughes, Aceves, Kennedy, Giese, and Coke, there are plenty of adequate candidates that the Yankees aren't pressured to sign anyone. Even beyond those five guys, you have a few guys in the minors potentially ready to make some fill in starts depending on the need.

While it's clearly not the optimal situation to go into the spring with the 5th spot open, I think there's enough potential quality arms that we'll be fine.

Hopefully, the Yanks look at Garland

Get Ben Sheets and sign him to a smart deal.

Can they just give Pettitte his 12 mill and call it a day. They just gave Melky 14 million for what, to insure that they can never trade him? Stop shitting all over Pettitte and open the wallet.

1.4 mill for Melky not 14. That a big different. And I like to have andy back, but we have good young talent to fill up the 5th spot in the rotation. So no worries fellow Yankees fans

Danny - I'm assuming that was a typo, and you meant "1.4 million" as that's what Melky is getting. While he's not worth half that, he's certainly no less tradable than he was before, even if the Yankees have to eat his salary or throw cash in with the deal (up to $1M cash can be included in a trade, last I knew).

Anyway, the point is that the 5th starter job, along with Andy Pettitte's situation, has nothing to do with Pettitte in any way.

I don't see how they're "sh***ing" all over Pettitte.
Hell, I'll literally let people sh** on me for $1M, let alone $10M. He's coming off of three straight seasons of league average numbers (slightly below average last season). I don't think a league average pitcher is worth $14-$16. Even $12 for Pettitte is strongly debatable, but something tells me Pettitte is/was looking for even more than $12. Considering, by all reports, that there are no other offers on the table, and that the Yankees were supposedly the Yankees "first" choice, he should have graciously accepted their extremely fair $10M offer.

Aging pitchers on the downside of their career coming off their worst season ever and one in which shoulder/arm issues seemed to bug them the 2nd half of the season shouldn't be payed based on past performance of days long gone.

Sorry, when I wrote:

"Anyway, the point is that the 5th starter job, along with Andy Pettitte's situation, has nothing to do with Pettitte in any way."

I meant: "has nothing to do with Melky in any way."

Jon Garland is not worthy of wearing pinstripes, so please stop with that nonsense.

Garland isn't worthy of pinstripes? It's nonsense?

Pitcher A 2006-2008:
616 innings, 1.40 WHIP, 4.54 ERA, 56 quality starts

Pitcher B 2006-2008:
633 innings, 1.43 WHIP, 4.26 ERA, 60 quality starts

Pitcher A is age 29, Pitcher B will be 37 in June.

If Pitcher B (Andy Pettitte) belongs in pinstripes, how is Pitcher A (Jon Garland) not at least in the discussion?

It was a typo Pinstrips and I see your point, but I also can see why Andy would feel slighted while someone like Posada who is likely to decline was rewarded for past glory. Hey anom, before calling someone a penis, grow one with a set to match and put your name behind something.

Danny - Pettitte can't really even compare to Posada, as catchers right now are in much higher demand. Posada was also coming off of arguably his best season ever, while Pettitte is coming off his worst season ever. Not to mention 2009 is a different market than 2008 in terms of second tier talent.

I understand that Pettitte is upset, and I can understand why he is upset, but what shocks me is that he can't realize that the situation right now with him, the Yankees, and the entire market isn't optimal for him.

He just simply fails to realize that he's an average pitcher at this stage of his career, and that he's 37 and coming off of his worst season in a long time. Honestly, I think his agents have done an awful job - either because they haven't tried hard enough to explain the facts to him, or because they're as delusional as he is about the current situation.

With regard to "penis anon" I'm surprised he/she even spelled penis right. Although, "penis" is an extremely well thought out, valid point to make.
