Pettitte Deal Done

Peter Abraham is reporting that the deal is done. It's worth $5.5 million base salary and could go up to $12 million with incentives that will be based on innings pitched and time spent on the roster.

Here's a press release about the signing from the Yankees.

With the addition of Pettitte I think the Yankees are done for the offseason. Maybe they trade Nady or Swisher, maybe they don't, but don't expect any more major moves

Does this mean Joba Chamberlain moves to bullpen to make room for Hughes in rotation?

Or does Hughes join Kennedy in being sent to AAA Scranton?

As of now it means Hughes and Kennedy to AAA.

Good. I think they still need some improvement.

Hey YankeeBoy,

What do you think they need to do?

Brian Danuff said...

I just think they need to learn how to pitch in the first half.

Hughes and Kennedy were awesome down the stretch in '07, and then they sucked the first half of '08, and when Hughes came back in September, he was great.

Get what I'm saying?

I'm sorry, I misunderstood you at first. I thought you mean the Yankees had to improve.

Yes, I think Hughes and Kennedy need to improve as well.

Anything could be possible. You could have Hughes as long relief. That could put a lot of pressure off him than last year. Or have him in AAA.

you dont put a kid you project to be a top of the rotation starter in the bullpen as a long reliver , unless its in late september call up kinda thing. Hughes will be in AAA and get called up when the team needs him. Only way he is in the rotation out of camp now is if Joba or someone else gets hurt. But this is a good thing for him because obviously he is the kind of young pitcher who needs time to develop alittle more and will benefit from having basically no attention on him now. Now he can work on his skills and show up out of nowhere and everyone will be like wow look at this hughes kid now. But yea its clear that hughes is the more typical young pitcher who needs to develop , where Joba is the exceptional star who just above and beyond the normal level of skill.

Peter Abraham is a fat idiot who knows nothing about the actual sport, just money.

He was a source for the news...

Uhhh... What's wrong with Abraham being the source of the news?
