Maybe He Shouldn't Have Apologized

From Bob Klapisch:

But ever since Sports Illustrated broke the story of his cheating, Rodriguez has been following the advice of his crisis specialists, including agent Scott Boras, and not the Yankees. As a result, A-Rod’s employers were less than impressed with his interview with Peter Gammons, noting how vague many of his answers were.

“Honestly? It was a disaster,” said the official, who doesn’t know the half of it. A second wave of controversy will soon overwhelm the slugger, say the publishers of “A-Rod: The Many Lives of Alex Rodriguez,” which was written by Selena Roberts, the SI reporter who uncovered the steroids story.

The book will go beyond Rodriguez’s use of syringes and chemicals. According to a press release from Harper Collins, Roberts has unearthed salacious details of the slugger’s private life that could embarrass him and further isolate him in the clubhouse.

The release date? April 14 – two days before the Yankees’ new ballpark is christened. No wonder the Yankees are pushing A-Rod to come clean Tuesday; he needs to build equity with the fans and the media before Round 2 of what could be a season-long quagmire.

A-Rod senses the coming storm. After singling out Roberts in his ESPN interview, accusing her of trespassing at his home in Miami and stalking him in Manhattan, Rodriguez called Roberts to personally apologize.

Whether the truce lasts, however, remains to be seen, especially after A-Rod realizes how exhaustively the book chronicles his past. And if the details of Roberts’ investigation become known, how will the Yankees react?

It’s one thing to say what A-Rod does off the field is his business, not ours. If Rodriguez barely funds his charitable organization with his own money, for instance, that’s his choice. So is leaving his wife and two children to date Madonna. It’s his business. But such behavior certainly makes it harder for fans to ever warm up to A-Rod. Wearing his jersey has never seemed less cool.

The only rumors I've heard about the book is that there is supposed to be something about A-Rod doing steroids is high school. I don't know how anyone could prove that so I don't think that's something A-Rod should be worried about. As for the rest of the "salacious details," I guess I'm gonna have to pick up the book to find out.

give the guy a fuckin break he apologizes for doing steroids- not good enough "theres still more to the story" he gets angry at someone for writing a personal story about his own life but no thats not acceptable, he apologizes for that and still gets ripped on. he pretty much just can't win with people.

I'm not ridiculing him for apologizing I'm just saying that after reading this upcoming book he may wish he didn't say he was sorry.

i wish someone would stalk selena roberts and write a book about her

It's a shame that people anonymously take shots at Selena Roberts for doing her job and instead blindly follow a liar.

Sports is becoming more like the national enquirer its a joke. Of course this book will be released on the day of the home opener at Yankee Stadium. Selena did her job reporting steroids but come on who cares what A-Rod is doing in his personal life. She is just trying to make a profit from the book. A-Rod apologize to her I hope she apologized to the Duke lacrosse players.

I'd like someone to fully examine the Selena Roberts/Duke LaCrosse story.

Somewhere I missed HER appology!

What a nightmare for the Yankees. They have what I consider the best off-season in their history (since free-agency began), are about to open one of the most beautiful buildings ever constructed (I have been there twice and it is incredible) and they have to deal with Selena Roberts' book hitting shelves two days before they open up in the new park. Honestly, at this point, I am really starting to hate the baggage Arod brings with him. It's exhausting. All I want to do is be excited about CC, Tex, Swish and the young guys like Gardner and Melacon and its AROD AROD AROD, all the f-ing time!

Greg, can we BAN Arod posts (with the exception of his on-field performance) after the Tuesday press conference? PLEASE!?!

When "A" starts hitting HR's, it will all blow over.

As for Roberts, DON'T BUY THE BOOK and don't buy SI and she will blow over too.

As for Selena Roberts, she is one of those righteous lesbians who hates men so she goes out of her way to take down the ones she feels have major male egos. That's why she went after Duke lacrosse kids, thats why she is going after AROD. She would NEVER go after Marion Jones, for example. She is the epitome of "I AM WOMAN, HEAR ME ROAR!!!"

Mike,

Does anybody buy SI any more? The thing is about 12 pages thick now. SI has fallen so hard since the advent of the internet. When I was a kid, I couldn't wait to get SI. Now, I wouldn't be surprised if the magazine loses money.

The only rumors I've heard that's going to be in the book is supposedly him being bisexual.
Something about him hanging out with and going to a Miami bisexual club.

Who knows, it remains to be seen.

I am sure you have all read the out-take from the Torre book about how he fed-ex'd the same jeans that Jeter was wearing from Tampa to Arizona to be like him (like single white female). I think Jeter maybe so uncomfortable with him because AROD literally has a crush on him.

Amen to Peter F. All I care about is the team playing baseball and all I ever hear about is A-Rod this and A-Rod that. We have 9 more years of this crap to put up with. I am so sick and tired of the whole thing. I don't care what he does in his private life until it effects the team and like it or not it does.

Hey Selena-
I really hope you don't have any skeletons in your closet. It was a disgrace how you convicted Duke Lacrosse in the press before all the facts were known. Apparently you have a lot of time to stalk pro athletes. I for one will not be purchasing your book.....
