A-Rod Admits Using PEDs

OK, I'm back home now. Here's the interview from ESPN:
>

At least he didn't deny it like Bonds and Clemens, I'll give credit him that.

This stuff bothers me so much, I wish the game wasn't in the state it was in. It's just sad.

I should add this too, this is Peter Gammons discussing the interview after it happened:

How could you ever believe a thing he says again, after looking into the camera a year after 2003 to Katie Couric and CBS and the viewing audience saying, "NO" to both ever taking steroids or even being tempted by them. He is a head case and I honestly just hope he either plays really well for us, or the Yankees can move on from him some way.

I'm still mad at him, i'm just glad he did the right thing.....for once.

Honestly, if you were in his position and it looked like you can get away with it would you have admitted to doing this and brought all the scrutiny and punishment that would entail onto yourself? He is a "head case" in a lot of ways but what he really is is human, all too human, and he is expected to be more then human.

Good man. I am still unhappy about him doing it, but at least he admits it. This is the best way to limit the damage the best he can. I'm proud he admitted it.

I'm just curious to how he will perform now. Maybe he can just forget about all of those records, the hall of fame, etc, and just play for the team. If the fans get to him, like we know they can, especially the home fans (who wants to be booed at home, really?), I don't want him here. I had a feeling this 10 year contract would be a bad thing, I wish we could turn back the clock, but we can't.

This guy needs to STFU when he should. I don't see anything good coming out of admitting it, other than the brilliant nickname "A-Roid."

I give the guy credit, he took it like a man unlike bonds and clemens.

Greg will you indulge me and read my last comment on the previous thread.

Cheers

Already done Will.

If this was Jeter sitting in that seat right now, talking the way Alex did, everybody would move on. Because it is A-Rod, although he spoke like a gentleman and was one of the few to admit it right off the bat (come to think about it I think he is the only player to admit it right off the bat), he is still going to get booed like crazy, he is going to get booed opening day at the new stadium. even though he did the right thing by admitting it right away. If it was Jeter, or pretty much anyone else for that matter, people would move on.

Greg Cohen said...

First of all I commend A-Rod for telling the truth, but if that was Jeter in that chair admitting he used steroids I might not watch baseball again. That would be devastating.

Like I said before, it wouldn't surprise me if any and I mean any player is linked to steroids even the almighty Jeter. I'm glad A-Rod came forward (specially since he didn't say the, "it was only one time I used it" excuse) and I hope he and we as fans can move on, lets support the team like we know how, the cloud have cleared and now I can get exited about this upcoming season and winning #27

Greg Cohen said...

Seriously, I can't imagine what would happen to baseball if Jeter had testing positive.

Anonymous said...

Who knows Greg, maybe Jeet is part of that 103 anonymous (my ass) list.

Greg Cohen said...

I'm not saying he's not, but if he is it will upset me a lot more than A-Rod being on that list does. A lot more.

Anonymous said...

So, what happens if A-Rod can't play up to his standards with everyone now on his back? Is he traded? Is he released regardless of the money that would have to still be paid?

Greg Cohen said...

He'll be booed, I can tell you that.

Anonymous said...

Pretty much if he has a good year the fans will say hes juicing again, and if he has a bad year the fans will say he can't do it without the juice.

Greg Cohen said...

It's not how I will react necessarily, but that's what I think will happen.

thi is the problem if all of you would look at your posts you all say the same thing... im mad at him but its ok. No its not ok. There needs to be a program or a punishment that if your cought using the PEDs your done, this is a big enough problem in the sport and the only way to clean it up is to get the "bad apples" out. Everyone is saying im mad but he can play well this year an erase it, thats why the sport will continue to be tainted.

Michael,

I'm all for the one strike and you're out rule regarding steroids in the MLB.
