White Sox Offer Abreu One-Year Deal

UPDATE 4:32 p.m. from ESPN's Jerry Crasnick:
Negotiations between the Chicago White Sox and free-agent outfielder Bobby Abreu stalled early this week after the team floated the possibility of a one-year, $8 million contract, said a baseball source.
According to the source, the White Sox have some interest in acquiring Abreu and adding a pitcher, but Williams can't make those moves unless he trades right fielder Jermaine Dye and his $11.5 million salary. And the team has made little or no headway in trade talks involving Dye.
Roger Ruben of the NY Daily News is reporting that the Chicago White Sox have made a one-year, $8 million offer to former Yankee right fielder Bobby Abreu. I believe this is the first offer he's received, and it's well below the money and three-year deal he had been hoping for.

I'm very surprised that the Mets have not gotten involved. To me, he'd be a nice fit for them, but it was reported again today that they're not interested.

I really thought the Yankees should have traded Matsui, and bring back Abreu as the DH. To me he's still a great player, no matter what people say about his defense.

But it's probably not going to happen.

He's definitely still a great offensive player, I can't argue with that.
