I'm really starting to wonder if they'll be able to put the big white NY on the backstop. It also looks like there's not enough room on the base lines to put the playoff/opening day logos on.
Very Nice pics Greg.
Thanks Liam.
Yankeeboy,
They're not going to have room for something the same size as the logo they had at the old stadium. So they'll probably just use a smaller one.
Some people are right, this could be the best stadium ever built.
liam, if it was the best stadium ever built, there would be no objected views in no part of this stadium. but all-in-all, i can't wait till it opens up!
I have a question-- does it bother anyone how far back those last two decks are from the field? It seems so un-Yankee Stadium-like to me, and just like all the other ballparks HOK has built. I always loved sitting in the tier, and now it seems to be so far away.
It bothers me a lot. I also hate the weird angles at the ends of the upper deck, I think they look terrible.
The upper deck does seem further from the field. It looks like the upper deck doesn't extend over the luxury boxes as far as it did in the old stadium that's probably good for people sitting in the mezzanine section we'll just have to see how it works out. The first row seats in the upper deck those were great seats in the old stadium better than alot of mezzanine seats in old stadium
the upper deck doesnt seem quite as steep as the old stadium either...my personal feeling is the crowd should be as close to the field as possible no matter how steep the angle of the upper deck has got to be or if that means the mezz level has a significant or if roof over it from the upper deck
i think maybe adding additional leg room ends up pushing the seats further away from the field
Aside from the restaurant issues with obstructed views I think it looks good
i do like that the luxury boxes now have seats outside and in front of the box
Hi I'm SteveB, from Pride of the Yankees blog (I was the 'anonymous' poster above). I loved the pictures and I have been visiting this blog of late-- I think you're doing a great job here, Greg.
I've been terribly disappointed with how badly Trost handled the upper decks in the new place ever since I saw the first design layout about 2-3 years ago. To look at the ballpark, it's beautiful. Plus it has tons of bells & whistles. But to me what made YS great was how close that upper deck was to the field, and it gave us a great home field advantage. My favorite seats for years have been the tier boxes just behind home plate. But in order to reduce the steep upward angle of the tier, and to give all the seats a full view of the field, (especially the ones down each line) Trost split the upper deck into two halves, greatly softened the upwards angle and moved them way back from the field. I read once that the closest row in the first of these two new decks is farther from the field than the last row of the tier was in the old YS. I think that's atrocious. I can't help but think that for a 'true baseball fan' it makes new YS a lesser place to watch a baseball game. I have been humorously saying that despite its (minor) faults, 4 million fannies can't be wrong! What IS a joke is how Trost proudly states he held the line on pricing with those seats, but for the same price you have a lesser value seat. I have been saying all along that HOK should never have been involved in designing the place, that it should have gone to a different company with fresh ideas. This is 2009 and I don't buy into the argument that the only way to keep the upper decks close was to make use of humongous steel beams that would block your view like YS had before 1974. So now YS' layout is just like all the other ballparks HOK designed, plus technological upgrades they don't have. I've already wasted too much of your time on this topic here (sorry, Greg), but I am going to be very interested in hearing the 'real scoop' about the stadium from REAL baseball fans who attend the games (not the ones who talk on their cell phones for 2 hours, then leave in the 7th inning to beat traffic).
Best regards, Greg. Keep up the great work.
Hey SteveB,
I couldn't agree with you more about the the new stadium, the upper deck, HOK, and Trost.
The upper deck at the old place not only made The Stadium look special, it was intimidating to opposing players. The fans literally were hanging on top of them.
As for Trost, he's screwed this up from the start, every way possible.
I'm hoping to be able to get their for Opening Day, but more likely I'll be at the second game against Cleveland. I'm very interested to see the place in person, but I can't say I'm too optimistic. Old Yankee Stadium is my favorite place on the planet so the new place has some big shoes to fill as far as I'm concerned.
I've been reading Pride of the Yankees for a while, and you're a great addition to their roster, great stuff.
Also, thanks for the kind words, I really do appreciate it.
Take it easy
The angles in the upper deck are just plane stupid. Besides of the bad views this the greatest stadium.
