And according to Marc Carig he drew a pretty big crowd for the event:Yankees left-hander CC Sabathia threw 28 pitches over two innings in a simulated game Monday.
The expected opening day starter made 14 pitches in both innings against Hideki Matsui and Kevin Cash in preparation for his first spring training start Friday night.
"Just trying to get a feel for it, the first time throwing to guys without a (pitching) screen up," Sabathia said. "It felt good."
CC Sabathia said he can't remember ever attracting such a large audience for something as minor as a simulated start. ...And here's a video from NJ.com:Before two dozen reporters and photographers, and even a few curious teammates, Sabathia threw 28 pitches while facing Kevin Cash and Hideki Matsui in a two-inning simulated game at Steinbrenner Field.
The left-hander drew hoots from teammates and coaches when he missed low and in with a pitch, forcing Matsui to move out of the way. Those same coaches and players then chided Matsui, imploring him get back in the box.
