Seats, foul poles, dugouts, urinals and numerous other items from the old Yankee Stadium will be sold to fans as part of a $10 million deal between the Yankees and New York City, the New York Post reported on Wednesday.I actually own a seat from the stadium that I bought a few years back. I love the thing, I've even sat in while watching games on TV... I know, I know, I'm a loser. But my point is I can definitely see how people would drop money on this kind of stuff. Especially for a place that was home to so many great memories for us fans.Demolition of the old Stadium will begin next month, prior to the scheduled April 16 opening of the new Stadium. Specifics on the sale of items will be available in the coming weeks, sources familiar with the agreement told the Post.
The old Stadium is owned by the city, which will receive a guaranteed $10 million, plus a percentage of any profits above $15.9 million, in exchange for allowing the Yankees to sell the city-owned portions of the ballpark, which includes all 57,000 seats.
City officials would not comment on the particulars of the deal, according to the Post, but mayoral spokesman Andrew Brent said an agreement is being "finalized."
As for the destruction beginning next month, that's just depressing.

did they film that movie in the stadium already? i thought there was a report that said it would still be there for the 2009 season.
and Greg if I had my own Yankee Stadium Seat I would sit in it while watching the games too.

I have a seat back that I bought from the Yankee Foundation for only $10. at the "Fan Fest" in January 1996. In those days, the Yankees just sold the stuff cheap to raise money for charity. Over the years, I've used the seat back to obtain autographs from Yankee greats including Yogi, Goose, Nettles, Larsen, Clemmens, O'Niell, Tino, Donny Baseball, Bucky Dent, Mariano, and many, many more (about 30 or so at this point).
The first autograph I got on the seat (right in the middle) was from a young kid player that had no line at the "fan fest" because he was an unknown player. There was no waiting and it was real easy to get him to sign the seat back and a baseball.
I had no idea who he was only that he had been called up in September 95. My daughter thought it was a waste of time and I couldn't argue, but I just didn't want to wait on another line.
I have a picture of my daughter, then almost 12 years old with a very young Derek Jeter as he signs the baseball with the seat on the counter.
The seat back is over my firplace (I did have it in my office at 6 World Trade Center where I had worked for 11 years but left there in late July 2001 to work in Westchester because I was tired of the commute).

do you know if they are leaving any of the old building up? I rememeber a plan a couple years ago to leave up part of the grandstand to use as a little league ballfield.
