News & Notes:

- Robinson Cano and Damaso Marte are having their MRI's today. I'll post an update as soon as I read or hear anything about the results.

***MRI UPDATE
*** Marc Carig reports that today's scheduled MRI's Cano and Marte have "been bumped back to Monday when the team will have access to equipment that should provide a more helpful reading, New York Yankees general manger Brian Cashman said."

- Jorge Posada will be behind the plate for the first time this spring today. He'll catch for three innings.

- Alex Rodriguez is off crutches. "He was in a good frame of mind. He asked how I was doing and how the club was doing," Joe Girardi said. "He said, 'Keep going.' The next step is getting into a pool, walking or jogging."

- Cuts: According to Peter Abraham, Jesus Montero, Christian Garcia, Mark Melancon, Kevin Russo, Kyle Anson and Ian Kennedy were all reassigned to minor-league camp. Yesterday the Yankees sent Colin Curtis and Austin Romine to minor-league camp and optioned out Mike Dunn.

- If you don't want to listen to Suzyn Waldman and John Sterling you can always follow the game on MLB.com's live boxscore.

UPDATE 1:47 p.m.: The Yankees took a 1-0 lead on an RBI ground out from Hideki Matsui in the first. They added another run on a RBI single from Ramiro Pena in the second.

Andy Pettitte has allowed two hits in two scoreless innings so far.

UPDATE 1:58 p.m.: Pettitte pitched another scoreless inning. Pettitte is done, 3 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 1 K

The Yankees added a third run in the third. Posada double, Damon moved him over to third, and Teixeira drove him in with a sac-fly. 3-0 Yanks.

UPDATE 2:05 p.m.: Posada is catching his fourth inning, so much for that three inning limit.

UPDATE 2:14 p.m.: Posada is done for day, four innings behind the plate, and at the plate he went 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored.

UPDATE 3:33 p.m.: After the Twins scored a run off Phil Coke to make it 3-1 the Yankees added two more on a two-run double by Angel Berroa to extend their lead to 5-1.

And that's how the game ended, Yanks win 5-1.

Stick around and discuss the game
as it happens in the comments section.

whoa! Posada leading off!

lol, you better remember that sight, it may be the last time you see that.

I'm really surprised how Teix isn't seeing anytime in the 4 hole. He most likely will be the cleanup hitter while A-Rod's gone.

Posada's leading off so I don't think these lineups are any representation of what they will actually be. Probably towards the end of spring training Girardi will start using the regular lineup.

Nice Liam, you play it yet?

Brian Danuff said...

Congrats Liam! You're gonna freak when you play your first game, I sure did.

Right now, I'm 40-19 in my season. Teix hit the first home run in the new stadium.

(Teix already has 20 homers in my season, he's gonna win the MVP!)
