Hideki Matsui won't play in the outfield for the New York Yankees until at least interleague road games in June and will be restricted to designated hitter and pinch-hitting appearances until then.If it were up to me he wouldn't step foot in the outfield all year, but that's just me. I know they don't want to lose his bat when they don't have the DH, but he might actually cost the team more runs in the field than he'd produce at the plate in those interleague game.
..."The earliest we would need him in the outfield would be interleague, and that's a ways off," Girardi said Wednesday. "That's why we envision him as our everyday DH. We need him. He's a great RBI guy. He's very important to our lineup."

If you want to give Damon some days off so he can rest and stay fresh you can replace Damon with Swisher.
There is no need to play Matsui in the field. Matsui is one of the team's better clutch hitters. No need to risk injury in the field his bat is too valuable.
Agreed. Having Swish makes it so he never has to play the OF. Why take the chance. If Matsui is hitting (and he appears to be roping the ball this spring), then I want a HEALTHY Matsui in the play-offs...and a HEALTHY Damon. Both of those guys should be penciled in for 130 games each (not 155-160) which will give Swish a chance to start 45 games or so and give them rest of turf, day after night games, interleague, etc.
Honestly there is no need for Melky on this team either. If you want Gardner to sit against a tough lefty they can put Swisher in center. I rather trade Melky for a super sub type player that can play basically anywhere and has speed so you can use him in late innings as a pinch runner. Melky is horrible on the basepads.
I would do the same thing Greg, keep him at DH. But he'll hate that though.
