Pinto Projects The Yankees Offense

David Pinto of the great Baseball Musings has projected the number of runs the Yankees will score per game this season. He uses the team's probable lineups from CBS Sportsline, his Lineup Analysis Tool and Tom Tango’s Marcel projections. Here's the results:
  • Best lineup: 5.72 runs per game
  • Probable lineup: 5.64 runs per game
  • Worst lineup: 5.42 runs per game
  • Regressed lineup: 5.05 runs per game
If the projections work out the Yankees will score around 927 runs with their "best lineup," 914 with their "probable lineup," 878 run with their "worst lineup," and 818 runs with their "regressed lineup." All numbers are higher than last year's sad total of 789 runs.

Pinto has this to say about the Yankees with Cody Ransom in the lineup:
Ransom's projection is pretty good, .351 OBA, .450 slugging. Most teams would be happy to get that from a third baseman. The Yankees best lineup drops to 5.52 runs per game with Cody, and with him batting sixth it would be 5.44. So the Yankees would drop 0.2 runs per game with Ransom instead of Rodriguez, but they would still score a high number of runs per game.
With Ransom the "best lineup" projects to score 894 runs.

He also shares the concerns of many, including myself, about the other injury risks on the Yankees, but that's a whole other story. For more on the Yankees offense from Mr. Pinto click here.

Projections make people think that everything is ok, but maybe the yankees would stink without A-Rod. Who KNOWS?
