The Rays snapped the Yankees' nine game winning streak today by defeating the Yanks 5-0. Alfredo Aceves started for the Yankees and pitched pretty well. In 2.2 innings he allowed a run on two hits and a walk, he also struck out one.

Steven Jackson allowed two unearned runs on two hits and three walks in 1.1 innings.

Kei Igawa had by far his worst outing of the spring. He allowed his first earned run on four hits and four walks in 2.2 innings pitched. He also struck out four batters.

Damaso Marte breazed through his first inning of work since returing from the WBC injured.

And Jose Valdez made his first appearance of the spring, allowing a run on one hit - a solo homer - in 0.1 of an inning.

The Yankees offense couldn't do much against phenom David Price and the rest of the Rays' staff today. There were a couple bright spots, though. Robinson Cano went 2-for-3. Brett Gardner went 1-for-2 with a walk on the day, and looked surprisingly good against the tough lefty. Melky Cabrera, Austin Jackson and Ramiro Pena also picked up hits on the day.

At the Yankees minor-league facility today CC Sabathia pitched against players from the Pittsburgh organization. In 5 innings he allowed a run on seven hits, walked one, and struck out three. He threw 81 pitches, 51 of them for strikes.

The Yanks also made a move today, acquiring catcher Chris Stewart from the White Sox for a player to be named later. He will be in major league camp.

Over at the WBC Team USA were beaten by Japan 9-4 last night in the semifinals. Derek Jeter committed a costly throwing error in the 8th. For the tournament Jeter hit .276/.382/.345, with 0 RBI and 2 runs scored. He also looked slow in the field. It's safe to say it wasn't the best of tournaments for the Yankees captain. The good news is that he will be returning to Yankees camp in the next couple days.
