A-Rod Has Torn Labrum, Could Miss Four Months

From Kat O'Brien:
We got the news a little while ago from Brian Cashman. I just got back upstairs after talking to him, Joe Girardi and a couple players. Alex Rodriguez has a torn labrum in his right hip as well as a cyst. He had the cyst aspirated today, and their are two courses of action they could take with the torn labrum. The conservative route involves rest, exercise and treatment; the aggressive route is surgery, which would likely involve a four-month recovery period, Cashman said.

For now, the Yankees are going the conservative route and hoping Rodriguez can play through the season and undergo labrum surgery after the season. "We believe and we hope the answer is yes," Cashman said.

If Rodriguez has the surgery, Cashman said: "To me, it's a four-month situation."
The initial 10 weeks doesn't sound so bad now, does it?

Can the Yankees survive with Cody Ransom or Angel Berroa at third base for the next four months? Possibly. It all depends on how well they can pitch. If they can pitch like people are hoping they can they'll be fine, if not they're screwed.

Hopefully A-Rod can rest for a bit and play through it. Otherwise it might be time for the Yankees to look to trade for an everyday third baseman.

Here's what Alex's agent Scott Boras had to say about this:

Let A-Rod rest for the whole season. Throw Kennedy, Hughes, Jackson, all of the above at the Marlins for Hanley Ramirez or Dan Uggla(He should cost less) Then in 2010 when Mats is gone Uggla/Ramirez or A-Rod can be the DH, or maybe even Jeter if we were to get Hanley.

It would probably cost them Joba if they wanted to get Hanley.

If A-Rod does have the surgery I think they should see if they can get someone who won't cost the entire farm. The question now is who is out there that they could get.

I just put an article up on my site about who will man the hot corner.

Here it is:

i want Melvin Mora.. i dont know if the O's will trade him to us but he would be great. He'd be here for just this year, decline his option for next year, he's a righty, he's got pop, he can easily hit .275 with 20-25 hrs and 90+ RBI, he knows the AL East, he's played in NY. He seems like the perfect fit.

other options; move Tex to third and Swisher to first, Nady to third( unlikely), Mike Lamb, Teahen, Figgins, Grudzielanek, Damion Easley, Ransom/Berroa, Bill Hall, or maybe a Cuban can come here and we can sign him. Anyone else?

I like Grudzielanek too, but my first choice would be Figgins. If they could get him that would be ideal.

if Arod can not go.. figgins is the answer..he can hit, good fielder who can play anywhere, and is fast as hell on the bases

If you want someone like Figgins, be prepared to give up a solid prospect ie. Ian Kennedy

I dont know what to think. On one hand I want arod to get the surgery. I dont want him at less than 100% down the strech. On the other hand can we afford to loose him for 4 months?

I'd give up Kennedy for Figgins in a heart beat.

I love the idea of Figgins or Ramirez. There both realy good players, but the youg Ramirez would be my first choice. First, though, we should see what Ransom brings with the stick this season.

Buster Olney mentioned today that the Yankees think Cano's best position is third base and could consider moving him, and then bringing in a second basemman. Not a bad idea at all if you ask me.
