Alex Rodriguez will remain under the care of a Colorado hip specialist "for the foreseeable future," New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said on Friday night, as the franchise and its injured star slugger continues to decide on what to do next.If he's staying in Colorado I think that means he's likely headed for surgery very soon.Cashman said surgery to repair a labral tear in Rodriguez's hip is an eventuality, though it is still possible that Rodriguez could postpone any procedure until after the season, which would allow him to play through the injury this year.
"Surgery is going to have to happen at some point," said Cashman, who met with reporters after a two-hour conference call with Rodriguez, his agent Scott Boras, medical personnel and team brass. "It's just a discussion of when."

WAIT! (I don't know why), but I'm watching the China - TPE game on ESPN, and it says this on the BottomLine:
"Yankees say there is a 75-80 percent chance Alex Rodriguez can play through torn labrum, ESPN's Buster Onley reports"

As far as A-Rod's surgery, I just think this means more than they're telling us. Like Posada last year. He was going to play through too.

This season is and always was going to be far more dependent on the pitching staying healthy. Regardless of whether we have A-Rod for a full season or half a season, the pitching staying healthy from top to bottom is the biggest key. Even if A-Rod had to miss half the season, the offense will find a way to at a very minimum do what they did last year, and that alone with the vastly improved pitching staff is enough for 8-10 more wins, in my mind.
I completely agree that the Yankees are still in good shape to win it all this year. They can and should do better than Ransom. I think the idea of moving Cano to third and going after a 2B makes a lot of sense. If he don't make the Rays, Adam Kennedy could be another option.
It's not over until it's over. I think he should do surgary.
