I'll be posting updates throughout the night. You can also follow the game on MLB.com's live boxscore.
UPDATE 7:26 p.m.: Sabathia's first inning as a Yankee: A strikeout of Rayburn for out number one. A misplay from Shelley Duncan on a Polanco pop fly ball that lead to a ground-rule double. Gary Sheffield then hit a grounder to short for out number two, and Polanco moved to third. Marcus Thames reached on an error on a routine grounder by Angel Berroa allowing Polanco to score. Hessman grounded out to third for the final out of the inning.
UPDATE 8:13 p.m.: Sorry for the delay but the terrible Detroit radio guys put me to sleep and I just woke up... No I'm not kidding. Apparently these idiots don't know anything. They didn't even know that Brett Gardner was fast. I guess they aren't watching the game in front of them.
Anyway, CC Sabathia pitched a scoreless second inning of work. He also struck out another hitter. His final line: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 0 ER, 0 BB, 2 K.
The Yankees scored their first run on a passed ball in the second that scored Cody Ransom who had previously doubled.
They added three more in the bottom of the second inning. Johnny Damon drove in one with a double. Nick Swisher added another with a RBI ground out, and Shelley Duncan drove in the 4th Yankees run with a RBI single. The Yanks now lead 4-1.
Sorry for the delay...
UPDATE 10:00 p.m.: The Tigers scored two runs off Steven Jackson on a two-run single by Alex Avila in the top of the 6th.
The Yankees came back with one of their own in the bottom half of the inning on a Ramiro Pena RBI single.
UPDATE 10:21 p.m.: The Yankees scored two more in the bottom of the 8th on an Eduardo Nunez RBI single and a Colin Curtis sac-fly.
UPDATE 10:24 p.m.: David Robertson strikes out the side in the 9th to finish off the game. Yanks win 7-3.
Stick around and discuss the game
